First Impressions

Walking through the narrow derb (alleyway) to reach Riad Raffaa feels like stepping back in time — you know you’re getting the authentic Marrakech experience when you’re navigating these ancient pathways in the heart of the medina. The riad itself is tucked away on derb jdid in the Bab Doukala neighborhood, which honestly is one of my favorite parts of the old city because it’s residential enough to feel real but still close to all the action. When you finally push through that heavy wooden door, the contrast hits you immediately — from the bustling street noise to this peaceful courtyard sanctuary.

Location & Neighborhood

The location here is genuinely excellent, and I can see why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways. You’re literally in the real heart of Marrakesh — I mean, you can walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa in about ten minutes, but you’re far enough away that you won’t hear the drumming and snake charmers all night. The Bab Doukala area has this wonderful local feel where you’ll see kids playing football in small squares and women chatting on doorsteps. There are neighborhood hammams nearby if you want the authentic experience, and the little corner shops (hanouts) have everything you might need. Getting here by taxi means they’ll drop you at the main road, then it’s a short walk through the medina — part of the charm, really.

The Riad Experience

What strikes me about Riad Raffaa is how it manages to feel both intimate and spacious at the same time. The traditional architecture — you know, the central courtyard with rooms opening onto it — creates this lovely sense of calm that’s so different from regular hotels. The staff here actually responds quickly when you have questions, which is refreshing because some riads can be pretty laid-back about communication. The rooms have that classic Moroccan style with tadelakt walls and traditional furnishings, though don’t expect modern hotel amenities — this is about experiencing authentic Moroccan hospitality in a family-run setting.

Breakfast & Dining

Breakfast is served halal, which is standard for Morocco but worth noting if you have specific dietary requirements. They typically serve it in the courtyard when weather permits — there’s something magical about starting your day with Moroccan mint tea and fresh bread while listening to the call to prayer echoing across the medina rooftops. The spread usually includes local honey, olive oil, fresh fruit, and those wonderful Moroccan pancakes (msemen) that are crispy on the outside and soft inside. It’s simple but satisfying, and honestly, after a few days of tagines and couscous, you’ll appreciate having a lighter start to the day.

  I don’t normally leave a review, but this time I had to. The location was perfect for us, very nice and clean Riad. Would definitely use it again. Very nice family! Clean room and toilet! Very nice roof top view. The breakfast included was the best one that we experienced from our trip. You go in the heart of a real good experience.

  Me and My Son had a Lovely Stay at Your Riad Raffaa Recently in Marrakesh. It Was Our First Visit to Marrakesh Morocco and we wanted to be close to the Centre, and Honestly this Riad Was Just Perfect For Us.
  Our Stay included Breakfast which was Lovely. We Had A Big Bedroom With 2 Double Beds in. Staff Were Excellent Too, Very Friendly and helpful. I Would Recommend the Riad Raffaa Thank You for our Stay.
