You know what surprised me most about Riad Rumi? It’s tucked away on derb Al Akhdar in the Riad Zitoune Lakdime area – honestly, I walked past the entrance twice before I spotted it. The medina can be overwhelming with all the hustling and narrow alleys, but once you duck through that heavy wooden door, it’s like stepping into someone’s beautifully curated home. The courtyard hit me first – that classic riad layout with the fountain in the center and rooms wrapping around it, but they’ve done something special with the tilework and plants. It actually feels lived-in rather than museum-perfect, if that makes sense.

The staff here really gets it. When I arrived (slightly frazzled from navigating the souks with my luggage), they didn’t just check me in – they sat me down with mint tea and actually drew out a little map showing me the best routes to Jemaa el-Fnaa and back. Turns out the riad is maybe a 8-minute walk from the main square, but through quieter residential streets where you’ll see actual Marrakchi families going about their day. The room itself was gorgeous – traditional Moroccan touches without feeling like a theme park, and the bed was honestly one of the most comfortable I’ve had in Morocco. The bathroom had this incredible tadelakt finish that felt smooth as silk, and the water pressure was surprisingly good (anyone who’s traveled in Morocco knows this isn’t always a given).

What really sold me on this place was the rooftop terrace – I mean, the Atlas Mountains views at sunset are something else, but it’s also where you realize how perfectly positioned this riad is. You’re close enough to hear the evening call to prayer echoing across the medina, but far enough from the main tourist drags that you actually get some peace. The 9.8 rating makes total sense when you experience little details like how they leave traditional Moroccan pastries with your evening turndown service, or how the night manager remembers your name after day one. I stayed during shoulder season in March, and while the medina was busy during the day, evenings at the riad felt wonderfully serene. Fair warning though – if you’re not comfortable with narrow, winding streets and the occasional motorbike zipping by, the location might feel a bit intense. But honestly, that’s part of what makes staying here feel authentically Marrakech rather than just another hotel experience.

  especially Mohammed and Noor were amazing. They gave great tips and helped us a lot. Mohammed even carried our bags back to the car, which was a 10-minute walk. We were welcomed with tea and biscuits, and breakfast was incredible; Moroccan dishes plus Western-style options like eggs and bread. The riad is gorgeous, super clean, and felt very safe. The location is perfect for exploring the Medina on foot.
  
  What could be improved: The entrance is a bit hidden in the Medina and it’s a short walk to reach where cars can stop (but that’s like every hotel/Riad in the Medina).

  Riad Rumi is an extraordinary Riad in the Medina of Marrakesh. The location is fantastic (only two minutes from the Jemaa El-Fna Square), it is very quiet and the interior design is really nice and tasteful. We had a beautiful room upstairs with a balcony with a view in the georgeous patio. The breakfast on the roof top was excellent and plentiful. We also had dinner in the Riad and it was served delicious Marrocan food. And last but not least the manager Noor and his staff are super nice, kind and helpful. We can fully recommend!!!

  We were welcomed by Mohammed and Noor. Over the course of our stay, they made us feel as if we were visiting family rather than a Riad.
