Riad Saba Overview

You know what? I’ve stayed in plenty of riads in Marrakech, and Riad Saba actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. First off, finding it on Derb Cherkoui isn’t the nightmare you’d expect – yeah, you’ll still need to navigate those narrow medina alleys, but it’s tucked in the Douar Graoua area where things feel more residential, less touristy chaos. The entrance is one of those classic understated riad doors that gives nothing away from the street, but step inside and honestly, the courtyard just hits different. The proportions feel right, you know? Not too cramped like some places where you’re basically eating breakfast in someone’s lap, but not so grand that it feels like you’re rattling around in a museum.

What really sold me on this place was the staff’s approach – they’re not hovering constantly trying to sell you excursions, but when you need something, they actually know their stuff. The guy at reception (I think his name was Youssef?) gave me directions to this tiny spice shop that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned wanting to avoid the main Jemaa el-Fnaa crowds, he steered me toward the quieter souks near Bab Debbagh. The rooms themselves are what you’d hope for in a proper riad – those thick walls mean you’re not hearing every conversation from the courtyard, and the traditional tilework isn’t just for show. I mean, some places slap on decorative elements that feel like a theme park, but here it’s clearly the real deal, probably because they didn’t gut everything during renovation.

The breakfast situation is honestly better than it needs to be. Fresh bread, proper Moroccan pancakes (not the weird tourist versions), and they’ll make you eggs however you want them. I’m usually skeptical of hotel coffee, but theirs was actually drinkable – strong enough to face the medina hustle. Location-wise, you’re about a ten-minute walk from the main square, which is perfect because you can easily get to all the action but retreat when the noise gets overwhelming. The riad gets busy during peak season (obviously), but even then it maintains this sort of calm center feeling. My only real complaint? The Wi-Fi can be spotty in some rooms, though honestly, that might be a feature depending on why you’re there. At 8.4 rating, it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but for the price point and that genuine riad experience without the tourist trap nonsense, it delivers exactly what you’re probably looking for in Marrakech.

  • It was great. – Louise from Australia – 5 November 2024 (9/10)

Great staff, big breakfast! And lovely room. The Riad is close to the main square but far enough away that it’s nice and quiet.

What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like about the Riad, however I didn’t like the scooters whizzing past me all the time in the thin streets of the old town!

  • Very good – Antonella from Italy – 7 May 2024 (8/10)

The staff was perfect, very kind guys.
    The room was good.

What could be improved: The patio and the breakfast can be better.

  • We loved this place and will certainly recommend ( with the proviso to pay in cash ) – Jackie from United Kingdom – 23 April 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful riad in an excellent location. Friendly helpful staff, especially Hassan.

What could be improved: It would have been useful to have been provided with a map of the medina on arrival. On paying the bill we were hit with a surprise 10% charge to pay by credit card. This did not happen anywhere else and had we been informed in advance could have paid cash. This changed my overall rating from 10 to 9.

  • Superb – Camilla from United Kingdom – 15 March 2023 (9/10)

central position, relatively easy to find.
    Samir was a delight

What could be improved: communal patio seemed better from the pics

  • Great Service and Hosts, Big Rooms, and Strategically located! – Lorenzo from Peru – 27 January 2023 (9/10)

Fantastic Riad! We were a large family group, and the hosts were very keen to help with all of our necesities, from tourism tips and recomendations, all the way to fixing special dinners for us. A100 Riad. Very kindly staff, large rooms, in the middle of the Medina.

What could be improved: Could improve a little bit their breakfast service and definitely, the WiFi service, but I think it might be a city wide thing.

  • We liked our stay in Riad Saba. – Jörg from Germany – 22 October 2022 (9/10)

Nice Riad, kindly stuff; safe parking area in the near was important for us, because we arrived by car.
Nevertheless the Riad is located not far from the main sights and from the inner Medina, everything is reachable by short footwalk.
We liked also the size of the room and the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good.

What could be improved: WIFI could be a little bit better.
