Riad Sabah Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Riad Sabah? The moment you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb Lamnabha, it’s like someone hit the mute button on Marrakech. I mean, the Kasbah can get pretty intense with all the hustling and narrow alleyways, but this place — honestly, it’s this perfect little sanctuary tucked away where most tourists never think to look.

The thing about staying in the actual Kasbah district is that you’re literally living inside centuries of history, and Riad Sabah gets this balance just right. It’s got that authentic riad feel (the courtyard, the traditional tiles, the whole deal) but without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but makes a huge difference when you’re trying to navigate a city like Marrakech. They’ll give you the real directions too — not just “go toward the main square” but actual landmarks like “pass the little spice shop with the blue door, then turn left at the fountain.”

What really sold me was how they handle the details that matter. The Wi-Fi actually works in the rooms (shocking, I know), the hot water doesn’t disappear after five minutes, and — this is key — the beds are comfortable enough that you’ll actually sleep well despite the call to prayer at 5 AM. Speaking of which, you’re close enough to Saadian Tombs that you can walk there in maybe ten minutes without getting lost, and the Bahia Palace is basically around the corner. But here’s the insider bit: ask them about the rooftop access in the late afternoon. The view over the Kasbah toward the Atlas Mountains is absolutely worth the climb, especially when the light starts getting that golden hour thing going.

The breakfast situation is honestly better than it needs to be — fresh bread, local honey, mint tea that doesn’t taste like it came from a box. They serve it in the courtyard, and there’s something about eating breakfast surrounded by those carved stucco walls that makes you feel like you’ve got this whole Morocco thing figured out. One small thing though — the rooms can get a bit echoey, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe mention that when you book. They’ve got quieter rooms away from the main courtyard area.

I’ll be straight with you: this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll have a massive pool or a full spa (though they can arrange a traditional hammam nearby). But if you want to actually experience Marrakech instead of just observing it from some resort bubble, Riad Sabah puts you right in the thick of it. You’ll walk the same streets locals use, buy your oranges from the same vendor, and actually understand why people fall in love with this chaotic, beautiful city. Plus, with a 9.1 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’re doing something right here.

Reviews of Riad Sabah

  • Superb – Shreya from United States – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

The staff were very caring, especially Sabah who arranged a great breakfast for us every morning as well as taxis. The riad is beautiful and well-decorated; especially the terrace with a view of the city.

What could be improved: The shower was a little cold sometimes.

  • Nice place to stay 🙂 – Jirina from Czech Republic – 19 April 2025 (10/10)

First night in Marrakech, together with my friends. Perfect place, nice owner who welcomed us with delicious Moroccan tea and biscuits and also told us the most important things to know. Sitting on the terrace, good sleep and great breakfast. Thank you 🙂

  • Exceptional – Michael from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

Lovely riad, welcoming people, and beautiful traditional rooms. I really enjoyed this place.

  • Little oasis in the middle of Marrakech – Hedy from Czech Republic – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful little oasis in the middle of busy Marrakech. The facilites are beautiful, the rooms and common spaces very clean, and the entire place has a beautiful sense of design and care.

The staff is amazing! Preparing delicious breakfast every morning and helping us with anything we needed – from directions to washing clothes. Highly recommend this place!

  • Lovely place inside a beautifully traditional old-town – Thi from Germany – 5 April 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful decorations, clean room and very good staff with a high hospitality. Overall it’s a great experience.

  • Very good – Alper from Belgium – 1 April 2025 (8/10)

Very nicely decorated room. Nice terrace.

What could be improved: Not so big windows in the room which made it a bit stuffy. Breakfast was a bit smaller compared to other Riads in Morocco.

  • Would come again – Gary from United Kingdom – 20 March 2025 (10/10)

    All very good

What could be improved: All good

  • Located in the midst of the Kasbar.wandering the made of streets wastricky – Alan from United States – 18 March 2025 (9/10)

    Location and staff

  • Great riad – Arne from Germany – 17 March 2025 (9/10)

The riad was very lovely and the rooftop amazing. The staff was very friendly and we even got some recommendations on what to do. We felt very comfortable.

What could be improved: The rooms are not very soundproof and relatively dark. You need to be aware that it is not possible to park your car in the medina in general, but there are parking spots like 400m away. We got charged 100 dirham (10€), but that was probably a scam and the parking would have been free.

  • Exceptional – Daniel from Germany – 15 March 2025 (10/10)

Exceptionally friendly staff; clean rooms; good shower, comfy bed; very central yet calm location. Would definitely come again.
