Riad Sable Chaud Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, but Riad Sable Chaud actually gets it right in ways that surprised me. You know how sometimes these traditional places can feel a bit stuffy or overly touristy? This one strikes this perfect balance between authentic Moroccan charm and actually being comfortable for modern travelers.
The location on Derb Jdid is honestly ideal – you’re deep enough in the Medina to feel like you’re experiencing the real Marrakech, but close enough to Bab Doukkala that you won’t get hopelessly lost trying to find your way back after dinner. I mean, getting lost in those narrow alleys is part of the charm, but not when you’re dragging luggage, right? The riad itself is one of those gorgeous traditional houses built around a central courtyard, and I have to say, the restoration work is impressive. The tilework is intricate without being overwhelming, and there’s this lovely fountain that creates just enough ambient sound to mask the street noise (though honestly, the calls to prayer and occasional donkey are part of the experience).
What really struck me was the attention to detail – the staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the best tagine spots that aren’t tourist traps. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably spend your evenings, and the Atlas Mountain views are pretty spectacular, especially at sunset. The rooms themselves are spacious by Medina standards, with thick walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in the heat of summer. I stayed in one of the suites and the bathroom was modern enough to feel luxurious but still maintained that Moroccan aesthetic with the tadelakt walls and everything. One small thing – if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs because the morning calls to prayer start early, but that’s true anywhere in the old city.
The breakfast situation is actually really good – they serve it in the courtyard, and it’s this nice mix of Moroccan and continental options. Fresh orange juice, proper coffee, those little pancakes with honey. Nothing fancy, but done well. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me because while it’s not perfect (WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and the hot water takes a minute to kick in), it delivers on what you’re really looking for in a riad experience. The staff speaks excellent English and French, which helps, and they’re genuinely helpful about arranging day trips or restaurant reservations. If you’re coming during high season, book early because places like this fill up fast – it’s got that sweet spot pricing where you get four-star comfort without the crazy luxury hotel rates you’ll find in Gueliz or Hivernage.

Reviews of Riad Sable Chaud
Very good Riad to stay for a trip to Marrakech – Twan from Netherlands – 30 May 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast was very good. staff very nice and the Riad very comfy. Also the roundtrip to the airport was arranged very well!
What could be improved: One small thing.. the trip to the Agafay desert booked via the accommodation was a little overpriced. The trip itself was very good!can come back again. – Fan from Germany – 19 April 2025 (10/10)
the staff are very friendly, the breakie is excellent, the location is convenient to the different markets.
Wonderful stay, wonderful hosts would return again! – Laura from United Kingdom – 15 March 2025 (10/10)
Fantastic home cooked fresh breakfast, fresh fruit. Perfect before your day out ahead.
What could be improved: There was nothing to dislikeIt could be 10/10 if they improved food and drink facilities. – Jodie from Spain – 2 February 2025 (8/10)
The location was excellent, right in the centre of the Medina. If you want to feel like you're staying in an authentic part of town, this was great. The hotel was very beautifully decorated. We loved the Moroccan designs and patterns. The room was comfortable, extra blanket and a shower. There was plenty of plug sockets, lights and a safe.
Food is provided if requested, as are trips recommendations and journeys back to the airport.
All staff were very friendly and helpful, they went out of their way to help us and accommodate our needs, and communicated in a variety of languages, such as English, Spanish, French etc. The room was secure and we were given keys to use throughout our stay.
What could be improved: Whilst the kitchen was open, the staff went out of their way to help provide for us. However, once closed, there was nothing available to help ourselves such as drink making facilities that we could access in the room or communal areas. It would be beneficial to have either a tea or coffee maker for guests to help themselves or/and a drinks machine for water or soft drinks.
The hotel provided food for breakfast and dinner, if requested. We were a bit disappointed with the food. On the first evening we were given Moroccan Tagine, which was very flavourful. My husband enjoyed his and found it filling as he had the chicken. But the vegetarian option was just the vegetables, nothing else. A few slices of potatoes, sliced carrot and half a tin of peas. That was considered an acceptable vegetarian meal! There wasn't a menu and we had no idea what we were getting until it arrived. I think we were charged far too much for the quantity given, especially the veggie options, which was essentially the accompanying vegetables for the meat dish.
The breakfast was described as Mediterranean. But sadly, it was not. The tiny pancakes and crepes were absolutely delicious, and had they offered us more I probably wouldn't be mentioning the breakfast now. However, besides the small crepe or pancake, there was a small piece of fruit (no choice), dry, stale bread (not toast), and a cake or biscuit. No cereal, yoghurts, choice of fruits, pastries, toast, eggs. It was more like a snack than a meal. Which was a shame, because the staff were so very lovely and helpful.
I think if they could add to their menu, including a reasonable veggie option, add more choice to the breakfast and make drinks available in the rooms or communal area, I would give it 10/10. I would stay again, but eat somewhere else.Exceptional – Diehl from United States – 26 January 2025 (10/10)
The owner was very kind and made delicious food. He walked us to places when we needed help navigating and was a very nice guy. Overall, the place was beautiful and I really enjoyed my stay here.
Nice and welcoming staff. – Anita from Italy – 12 December 2024 (8/10)
Rooms were nice and clean. The staff was super available and very very welcoming. Discreet and peaceful atmosphere as there aren't many rooms. The riad is like a home and gives you the feel of the Moroccan tradition.
Very quiet.
The area in which the riad is located is about 25 min walk to the main square and only 5 min to the "busy area.
What could be improved: The terrace could be better taken care of, it would boost the experience for the clients.Exceptional – Áine from Ireland – 8 September 2024 (10/10)
The staff were all so lovely, very comfortable room and the food was delicious!
People, a place we could rely on each time we came back to Marrakesh (we travelled around Morocco) – An from Belgium – 2 September 2024 (9/10)
– very friendly, helpfull staff
– a really nice place to stay
– our 'base camp' each time we came back to MarrakeshEverything was perfect – Eszter from Hungary – 25 August 2024 (10/10)
The riad is really nice, it is close to the Medina (~15mins walk) and the staff is exceptionally kind and helpful. Delicious breakfast and lunch was included.
Highly recommended, I would definitely come back.Confortable riad within the Medina of Marrakech – Ilona from Netherlands – 11 June 2024 (8/10)
There were a lot of friendly people cleaning the riad and the rooftop terras was provided with nice bed to relax on.
What could be improved: The pictures of the terras were romanticized. The pictures did not lie but made it look more cute. We thought the riad was provided with a rooftop swimmingpool, however this turned out to be a watertap with no water inside.
