Riad Safar Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of riads around Marrakech, and Riad Safar is honestly one of those places that gets everything right without trying too hard. It’s tucked into this narrow derb in the Sidi Abdelaziz quarter – you know, that part of the medina where tourists don’t usually wander but locals actually live and work. The first time I found it, I walked past the door twice because these traditional riads just blend into the street walls, but that’s sort of the point, isn’t it?
What hits you immediately when you step inside is how they’ve managed to keep that authentic riad feeling while actually making everything work properly. The central courtyard has this gorgeous fountain that’s not just for show – the sound of water actually drowns out the call to prayer from the nearby mosque if you’re a light sleeper (though honestly, after a day exploring the souks, you’ll probably sleep through anything). The rooms wrap around this courtyard in typical riad style, and I mean, the craftsmanship is beautiful – all that intricate tilework and carved plaster you expect, but the bathrooms have proper hot water pressure and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a dying camel. Small things, but they matter when you’re dealing with Marrakech heat.
The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, which is huge. They’ll tell you which hammam on Rue Riad Zitoun el Kedim is worth your time (skip the touristy ones near Jemaa el-Fnaa), and they know that little spice shop on the corner where the owner speaks perfect English and won’t try to sell you saffron that’s actually just colored rice powder. The breakfast situation is solid too – they serve it on the rooftop terrace where you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and honestly, sitting up there with mint tea while the medina wakes up below… well, it’s one of those moments that makes you remember why you travel. The location means you’re close enough to walk to all the major sites – maybe fifteen minutes to the main square through winding alleys that feel like stepping back in time – but far enough away that you’re not dealing with constant noise and crowds. Just don’t expect your taxi driver to find it easily; they’ll drop you at the main road and you’ll walk the last bit through the neighborhood, which is actually part of the charm.

Reviews of Riad Safar
Excellent Riad – Peter from United Kingdom – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
Very friendly and helpful staff who did all they could to make us welcome. The Riad itself was a lovely oasis.
What could be improved: Nothing to not like. Perhaps directions to the Riad could be more comprehensive.Exceptional – Kourtney from United States – 10 June 2025 (10/10)
Stunning riad. So beautifully made. Staff was amazing.
A beautiful, calm oasis in the midst of the medina chaos! – Lucy from United Kingdom – 3 June 2025 (10/10)
Riad Safar was an oasis of calm in the midst of the busy streets and souks. Staff were attentive and helpful. We had a beautiful room and lovely breakfast each morning of our stay. The rooftop plunge pool was a fantastic way to cool down at the end of a day exploring Marrakesh. The view of sunset from the rooftop couldn’t have been better! I don’t think there could be a nicer place to stay than Riad Safar. Highly recommended.
What could be improved: The Riad was hard to find initially, however a local man helped us and once we got our bearings we were fine. Highly recommend using map.me app to find your way around the city. Only online map that seems to work. Also be aware the souks close at night so you need to find alternative routes home, as taxis cannot get directly to the riad.Beautiful RIAD, fantastic staff. Would absolutely go back no questions asked! – Lianne from United Kingdom – 31 May 2025 (9/10)
This RIAD is absolutely stunning. The staff are fantastic, the breakfast was lovely and it just so peaceful.
What could be improved: The pool could be slightly heated as its absolutely freezingPerfect 👌 – Giulia from Romania – 29 May 2025 (10/10)
Everything about our stay was perfect — from the location and the staff to the room itself. We arranged transportation through the riad, and upon our arrival in the Medina, someone was already waiting to guide us to the property, which was a thoughtful touch.
The internet connection was reliable and suitable for work, and the rooftop offered a beautiful view, especially at sunset. We stayed in the junior suite, which was spotless and very comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious, and we especially appreciated the extra effort the staff made to prepare it early for us at 6:30 AM on the day of our departure.
We truly loved our stay and highly recommend this riad.Exceptional – Valeria from Spain – 19 May 2025 (10/10)

Just a quiet beautiful oasis of peace and tranquillity with lush plants – the room was spacious and well equipped- the roof terrace a haven to read and relax after a busy day walking the medina – very welcome refreshing dipping pool
Staff were exceptional and went out of their way to make the stay so relaxing
Thank you so much – we look forward to returning 😎

What could be improved: Getting to the Riad could be a bit tricky, but once you’re there, it’s like if you’ve step into your little heaven.Exceptional – Surej from Germany – 17 April 2025 (10/10)
Everything was good.
Exceptional – Claire from United Kingdom – 3 March 2025 (10/10)
The road was beautiful and the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. They arranged our taxi to and from the airport and transported our luggage through the medina to the riad. Although the riad was a minutes walk off the busy shops there was someone employed to walk us back to the riad in the evenings to ensure we felt safe. We loved our stay and would recommend it
