Riad Safia Overview
You know what hit me first about Riad Safia? The silence. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Marrakech’s medina – like, proper old-city chaos is happening just outside – but step through that traditional wooden door on Derb Elmejjat and it’s like someone hit the mute button. The courtyard opens up with this gorgeous fountain in the center, and honestly, I just stood there for a minute taking it all in. The tilework is incredible, but it’s not the Instagram-perfect stuff you see everywhere – it’s got character, little imperfections that make it feel authentic.
What really sets this place apart is how the owners actually understand what travelers need. The rooms are beautifully decorated with traditional Moroccan touches, but they’ve got proper outlets where you need them and decent Wi-Fi (which, let’s be real, can be hit or miss in the medina). The rooftop terrace is absolutely killer – you get these sweeping views over the red city walls, and if you time it right for sunset, well… just bring your camera. I spent way too many evenings up there with mint tea, watching the storks nest on the nearby buildings. The breakfast spread is solid too – fresh bread, local honey, and they make this amazing orange juice that’s probably ruined me for the bottled stuff forever.
Getting there is an adventure in itself – Derb Elmejjat is one of those narrow alleyways where you’ll definitely get turned around at least once, but that’s part of the charm. Pro tip: the staff will meet you at a main street if you’re coming with luggage, which is honestly a lifesaver because navigating those cobblestones with a suitcase is no joke. You’re maybe a five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa if you know the shortcuts, though I’d budget ten minutes because you’ll inevitably get distracted by some artisan’s workshop or spice vendor along the way. The location puts you right in the thick of things – you can hear the call to prayer from the nearby mosque, catch the scent of tagines cooking from neighboring houses, and there’s this bakery around the corner that does these flaky pastries that’ll make you question everything you thought you knew about breakfast. It’s not a huge place, maybe eight rooms total, so it feels intimate rather than touristy. The 9.3 rating makes total sense – it’s the kind of spot that gets the balance right between authentic Moroccan experience and actual comfort.

Lovely traditional Riad.Very clean and great facilities. My room was nice spacious and airy with a great outlook over the courtyard pool. The breakfasts were nice sitting around the pool also.I particularly liked the quirkiness of the shower which I have attached a photo. At my time of visit it was s sweltering 45 degrees and the AC unit in my room packed in.Aicha had an engineer out right away fixing it.

Riad Safia is Beautiful! It’s even better than the pictures, with really comfortable beds. A lovely cool, quiet and comfortable oasis from the busy streets outside! With lovely refreshing pool. Aisha is so kind and welcoming, and couldn’t have been more helpful. She gave us all the information we needed to enjoy our stay in Marrakesh and helped us navigate the 20 minutes walk to Jemaa El-Fnaa square. Breakfast was delicious and they even helped with collecting us to and from where the taxi dropped us. Only a couple of minutes walk but we would have struggled to find it on our own!

We had a lovely stay at this hotel, staff were very helpful. We had a really good night's sleep and the location was brilliant for being picked up to go to activities booked.
What could be improved: Stay wasn't long enoughExceptional – Ashley from Canada – 7 May 2025 (10/10)
Great hosts!! They genuinely want you to enjoy! The lady that works there was incredibly sweet and was so caring, and the man was very helpful with arranging taxis, printing out boarding passes and being a bit of a tour guide. I would 100% recommend! The rooms were rustic but very Moroccan and I had a great experience!
A beautiful, peaceful riad in the heart of the medina with lovely staff, stunning rooftop views, and a truly welcoming v – Fergus from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (10/10)
I stayed at this riad during my trip to Marrakesh and honestly, it was perfect. Tucked away in the medina, it felt like a calm little hideaway from the busy streets outside. The moment I walked in, I was greeted so warmly—it really felt like coming home.
The riad itself is gorgeous—charming, peaceful, and full of beautiful little details. My room was spotless, with lovely traditional touches that made it feel really special. The whole place had this laid-back, welcoming vibe that I absolutely loved.
The staff were amazing—so kind and helpful, always happy to give help with anything I needed. They really went out of their way to make my stay feel special.
If you’re heading to Marrakesh and want a beautiful, peaceful place to stay right in the middle of it all, I can’t recommend this riad enough. I’ll definitely be coming back!
What could be improved: I liked everything about this property!A lovely quiet space to rest and recharge our batteries after the vibrancy of the Medina. – Arlene from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (9/10)
The rooms were more impressive than the photos showed, especially our room with the beautiful ceiling. The outdoor spaces – courtyard and terrace – were lovely. The terrace has loungers, shaded sitting area and large table and chairs, Breakfast was freshly made warm crepe/fried bread plus rolls with honey and jam. There are only 5 rooms, so it is quiet and intimate. The area is 'real' Medina – local vendors selling their produce at the side of the road, donkeys and carts and mopeds and cats and people somehow finding space to go about their business. But only 15-20 minutes to the main square. Aicha is just the best hostess, whose aim is to help every guest enjoy their time in the City.
Aicha is a wonderful host. The rooms are beautiful and the beds comfy. Cosy and clean Riad. – Wil from Canada – 17 April 2025 (10/10)
Wonderful time at Riad Safia, which was the start and end of our bike packing trip. Aicha was an amazing attentive host and helped us with many things including storing our luggage, helping us source a gas canister, finding us tools and going above and beyond to make our stay so fantastic.
Highly Recommend – 11/10 – Jack from United Kingdom – 2 April 2025 (10/10)
Everything about this Riad was great! Delicious breakfast, very clean and quiet and a nice location for a little walk into the centre square. Aicha the host topped it all off though, she was so kind and accommodating and really made our stay!
Super star – Redondo from United Kingdom – 1 March 2025 (10/10)
The riad is in perfectly and tactical located, from there you have everything you need walking distance, from cultural activities to taxi and tours meetup. Aisha, the manager is one of the best humans being I ever met, she will go above everything you can expect to guarantee you're having a great experience in Marrakesh, just to mention one thing, I got lost and texted her to resend the location but instead she promptly came to rescue me at the street market, she will also make sure you're going to good sanitized restaurants and offer an amazing breakfast at the riad. The chef is a very talented sweet lady and the assistant is also really welcome, the lack of language won't be a problem, Aisha speaks English perfectly. I will extremely recommend this Riad to anyone and I'll definitely stay with them again.
This is perfect for visiting the real marrakesh – Mandy from United Kingdom – 12 February 2025 (10/10)
