Riad Safina Overview

You know what hits you first at Riad Safina? The quiet. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa, but once you slip through that heavy wooden door on Rue de la Bahia, it’s like someone turned the volume down on all of Marrakech. The riad sits in this perfect pocket of Riad Zitoun Jdid where the tourist hordes thin out just enough – you’re still in the heart of everything, but you can actually hear yourself think.

The place has that authentic riad magic without feeling like a museum, if that makes sense. The central courtyard is gorgeous – proper Moroccan tiles, a fountain that actually works (trust me, not all of them do), and this incredible play of light and shadow throughout the day. I honestly spent way too much time just sitting there with my mint tea in the morning, watching the light creep down the walls. The rooms wrap around this courtyard in traditional style, and here’s the thing – they’ve managed to keep the historic charm while sneaking in modern comforts. The air conditioning works properly (crucial in summer), the beds are actually comfortable, and the bathrooms have decent water pressure. Small victories, but they matter when you’re dealing with the Marrakech heat.

What really sets this place apart is the staff’s local knowledge. They don’t just give you generic tourist advice – they know which entrance to use for the souks to avoid the worst crowds, where to grab the best pastries for breakfast (there’s this little place around the corner that most visitors never find), and honestly, their restaurant recommendations were spot-on. The location is brilliant for exploring on foot – you can wind your way to the Bahia Palace in about five minutes, the Saadian Tombs are practically next door, and when you need to escape the medina madness, the Agdal Gardens are an easy walk south. Getting back to the riad can be tricky at first (all those winding alleys look the same), but once you figure out the landmarks – there’s a distinctive blue door and a spice vendor who’s always there – it becomes second nature. The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you experience it. It’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but everything just works seamlessly, and there’s this genuine warmth that you can’t fake. I’ve stayed in riads that felt like beautiful prisons and others that were all style with no substance, but Safina hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing real Moroccan hospitality while still having your creature comforts sorted.

Reviews of Riad Safina

  • Great – Alison from United Kingdom – 1 July 2025 (9/10)

Despite being very well located for the medina this Riad is very quiet, with only 6 rooms it’s a welcome oasis of calm compared to the busy medina itself. The staff are incredibly attentive, nothing is too much trouble.
It feels very homely. Rooms are clean and well kept. Great value for money.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Very good – Renee from Australia – 1 May 2025 (8/10)

Our hosts were so attentive. Breakfast was fabulous.

What could be improved: The rooms are small and we had to pay for bottled water despite being advised that the tap water was not safe for travellers to consume. Rooms facing the street can be noisy

I must say that both Mouad and Mounir made my stay extremely comfortable. They were so helpful and attentive all the time. The room was clean and the breakfast was so good. Even though the location is in the Medina, it was quiet. I will recommend Riad Safina any day. Thanks for the extra coffee in the morning 🙏 Jens
