You know what really gets me about Riad Sashema? It’s tucked away on this narrow derb in Sidi Mimoun where you’d never find it unless you knew exactly where to look – and honestly, that’s half the charm. I mean, you’re wandering through these winding alleys where the only sounds are distant calls to prayer and maybe a motorbike squeezing past, and then suddenly you’re stepping through an unassuming door into this incredible oasis that feels like someone’s elegant family home.

The thing about staying in the medina is that most riads either go full tourist-trap with over-the-top “Moroccan fantasy” decor, or they’re so authentic they forget about comfort entirely. Sashema actually strikes this perfect balance – the courtyard has those gorgeous zellige tiles and traditional plasterwork you want to see, but the rooms have proper bathrooms and beds that don’t leave you wondering if you should’ve splurged on a modern hotel instead. The rooftop terrace is where I spent most of my mornings with mint tea, looking out over the medina’s maze of flat roofs and satellite dishes (way more romantic than it sounds, I promise). You can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, which the staff will tell you about with genuine pride rather than rehearsed enthusiasm.

What really won me over was how the owners – they’re this lovely Moroccan-French couple – seem to know every corner of the neighborhood. They’ll send you down alleys to find the bread guy who makes the best khubz, or point you toward the tiny restaurant where locals actually eat rather than the tourist traps near Jemaa el-Fnaa. The location means you’re about a ten-minute walk from the main square’s chaos, but honestly, that’s perfect because you get the authentic medina experience without the constant hassle from touts and henna ladies. Getting there with luggage is… well, let’s just say pack light or be prepared for a bit of an adventure through those narrow passages. But once you’re settled in, you’ll understand why this place has such crazy good ratings – it’s the kind of spot where you actually feel like you’re experiencing Marrakech rather than just visiting it.

  This location is the best, close enough to the medina to walk yet much quieter and very safe. The Riad itself is exceptional, it's new and everything just works. The staff is also the best, super friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

  Road Sasheema is a very beautiful Riad in centre of the Medina in old town Marrakech. Surrounded by culture.
  
  On initial approach from the outside, it's impossible to tell what the inside looks like.
  
  Every time we walked in the front door you're presented with the most amazing aroma.
  
  The Riad was clean, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the local areas. The gave some brilliant advice about how much to expect to pay for taxis to certain destinations.
  
  The breakfast which is included was delicious and consisted of pancakes, freshly baked Moroccan bread, cake, coffee, Moroccan tea which is amazing, honey, marmalade, Jam and yoghurt. The perfect size breakfast to start the day.
  
  The toiletries which were included had the most amazing smell and were obviously luxurious and also available to buy from reception if required. We only knew this because we asked by the way, there was certainly no sales pitch or pressure from the staff.
  
  What could be improved: There was a small leak on the bathroom sink which meant the bathroom counter had a constant small puddle of water but it didn't effect our stay at all.

  We loved the location, the decor, the breakfast, the rooftop! The staff were super friendly. Ridwan in particular was fantastic. Peppermint tea upon our welcome. Comfortable rooms and lovely facilities.
