Riad Slitine & Spa Overview

You know what struck me first about Riad Slitine & Spa? The fact that I actually found it without getting completely lost in the medina’s maze – and that’s saying something. It’s tucked away on Derb Zenka daika in the Riad Zitoune Jdid area, which honestly is one of the better spots to base yourself if you want that authentic medina experience without feeling like you’re camping in the middle of a souk. The 8.3 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Marrakech, but it gets the important stuff right.

The spa element isn’t just a name-drop either, which I appreciated. After spending half the day wandering through Jemaa el-Fna and dodging motorcycles on those narrow streets, having a proper place to unwind felt essential. The traditional riad layout works in their favor here – you’ve got that classic central courtyard that stays cool even when it’s blazing outside, and the rooms wrap around it in a way that actually gives you some privacy. I mean, some riads feel like you’re living in a fishbowl, but this one strikes a decent balance. The neighborhood itself is pretty walkable too – you’re close enough to the main action that you can easily hit up the night market or catch a taxi to Gueliz, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night.

What really sold me on the place was the staff’s local knowledge. They didn’t just hand me a generic city map and wish me luck – they actually knew which hammams were worth the trek and which restaurants the locals frequent (there’s this tiny place about five minutes away that serves the best tagine I had in Morocco, and I never would’ve found it otherwise). The building itself has that aged-but-maintained feel that good riads do – you can tell it’s been around, but someone’s clearly putting effort into keeping it up. Four stars feels about right for what you get, especially considering you’re paying medina prices, not international chain hotel prices. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere with character, not just booking a room for the night.

  • Nice stay – Sergio from Brazil – 13 March 2025 (8/10)

Location was great very close to all the main attractions

What could be improved: Breakfast was ok, but no options, same thing again couldn’t imagine stay there for a week and not having other options for eat.

  • Great location. Great staff. – Leona from United Kingdom – 28 February 2025 (9/10)

    Location

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Superb – Rivolta from Italy – 16 October 2024 (9/10)

The position si very good, close to the main street.
The staff si very polite and tries to help out

  • Old with character – Rupert from United States – 7 July 2024 (7/10)

Convenient location, nice courtyards, large family room

What could be improved: Dripping sinks, loose toilet, dirty alleyway

  • Superb – Silvia from Portugal – 25 June 2024 (9/10)

In the heart of Marrakech. Near everything and very comfortable

  • Fabulous- would love to go vack – Mat from Ireland – 14 May 2024 (9/10)

An oasis of calm. Maybe a little worn and dated but that adds to the charm – it is absolutely beautiful and is wearing the test of time well

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Superb – Sabrina from Switzerland – 4 May 2024 (9/10)

I loved the hidden riad with its amazing atmosphere. The breakfast is really nice and friendly staff. I can also recommend the Hammam.

  • Beautiful spacious room and lovely staff – Alejandro from United States – 11 April 2024 (8/10)

The staff was excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The riad was beautiful – very authentic and homey.
The location was also good – in the old medina, but in a quiet little corner. We walked everywhere as a family and came in and out many times, felt safe.

What could be improved: Our bathroom had a very weird odor. The shower could also use a curtain or door as the water just goes onto the floor of the bathroom, flooding it a little.
The room was also a little dark – could use a bit more light.

  • Superb – Celine from Denmark – 1 April 2024 (9/10)

Amazing hidden gem! The riad is a combination of several small courtyards with plenty of space for privacy and relaxation, near the pool or on the rooftop. Extremely calm despite location in the Medina.
    Very tasty breakfast
Good size pool for a riad

What could be improved: The rooms could use a bit of modernization- especially the bathrooms.
The riad is old and plenty of charm, so not fully modern

  • Amazing, we had a lovely time – Fernanda from United Kingdom – 14 February 2024 (9/10)

The garden and the pool, that area was so peaceful. When it was raining one day it was so nice to chill there just listening to it.
Also the bed was super comfy. The pillow too big, too thick. We had neck pain the first morning but I loved it that we asked for a change for thinner ones and they sorted this out for us immediately. Staff was great.

What could be improved: The breakfast could’ve been a bit more varied, more options. The rooms need fixing, some things are falling apart and could use more natural light, it was very dark.
