Riad Sougtani Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when our taxi turned off the main road toward Oumnas – honestly, it felt like we were heading into the middle of nowhere, about 23 kilometers outside Marrakech proper. But then Riad Sougtani appeared, and I mean, wow. This place is tucked away in what feels like authentic Morocco, far enough from the medina chaos that you can actually hear yourself think, but close enough that you’re not completely cut off from everything.
The thing about staying out here is that you get this incredible sense of space – something you’d never find in the cramped riads downtown. The courtyard actually has room to breathe, with these gorgeous traditional tiles (they call them zellij) that catch the light differently throughout the day. I spent way too much time just sitting there with my mint tea, watching the patterns shift. The staff here really knows their stuff too – they’re not just going through the motions like at some of the tourist traps closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa. Our host, Hassan, grew up in the area and had these amazing stories about the surrounding villages. He arranged a driver for us one day to visit the local souk in Oumnas itself, which honestly felt more authentic than anything we saw in the main city.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail – and I don’t mean the fancy amenities (though the bathroom products were surprisingly good). I’m talking about things like how they time the evening lighting perfectly, or how the breakfast setup changes based on the weather. There’s this gorgeous rooftop terrace where you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days, and they’ll actually tell you the best times to go up there based on the light. The rooms themselves feel genuinely Moroccan without being kitschy – thick walls keep things cool during the day, and the beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in traditional riads, let’s be honest). The only minor thing is that you’ll definitely want to arrange transport ahead of time if you’re planning to head into Marrakech for dinner, since taxis don’t just cruise by out here. But honestly? After a day of exploring the medina, coming back to this peaceful spot felt like exactly what we needed. The 9.4 rating makes total sense – it’s the kind of place where every detail feels intentional, but not in a stuffy way.

Reviews of Riad Sougtani
Exceptional – Dmitry from Switzerland – 5 June 2025 (10/10)
We had a great time during our stay. Beautiful, hospital, spacious. It was really great!
What could be improved: It is 30 min away from Marrakesh, so you’d better have a carRelax, enjoy fresh air, generous culture and history. – Mohammed from Saudi Arabia – 19 April 2025 (9/10)
This is not your Normal hotel experience. This is an experience of living in your cousin Farm house. Very Comfy, quiet and relaxing. Souhail and his team made the experience some thing in different level. Best food I had since I arrived in Morocco 4 days ago. Very generic portions, and they care. The location is remote from all the city noise and pollution, but near nature and historic locations and activities. Family with kids may enjoy the area as there is an attached farm to the Riad. (It is a relax and read and disconnect time, Plus it may be a good location to explore the area. Over all I loved the experience and the hospitality.
What could be improved: You have to arrive with the correct expectation, they did not advertise for the Riad in a fare way for the experience.
I wish they had a bigger farm animals collection it will make it ore enjoyable for families.Enjoyable experience, but slightly tarnished by misunderstanding over excursion charge – Patrick from Czech Republic – 30 October 2024 (7/10)
Friendly personal service. Lovely touch to serve tea after dinner by cozy fireplace. Comfortable rooms and surroundings, although certain facilities are basic, e.g. pool. The place does not have the facilities of a 4/5 star hotel, e.g. no TV in room, but in a way this is part of the charm/appeal.
What could be improved: The pricing of the excursions was misleading. The brochure of excursions suggested different prices per person, depending on number of persons in the booking (e.g. according to brochure price per person for 4 person booking should be lower than price per person for 2 person booking). But for our 4 person booking, we ended up being charged at higher rate for 2 persons, lower rate only for the other 2 persons.A truly magical and unique place – Natalie from United Kingdom – 5 October 2024 (10/10)
This was an absolutely exceptional hotel, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were treated as honoured guests.
We arrived at 10pm and were greeted with mint tea and biscuits, and dinner served at a time to suit us despite how late it was. The staff and the owner could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The owner greeted us every day at breakfast and then again at dinner. They honestly made us feel so incredibly welcome. We ate dinner here every evening. The food was wonderful , an authentic 3 courses of Moroccan specialities with lovely extra touches such as fresh verbena tea at the end of every meal. All meals were served outside in the beautiful courtyard garden. A truly magical experience .
The riad itself is absolutely stunning, and incredibly spacious with only 6 guest rooms so it would never feel crowded. Our room was beautiful with lovely touches such as fresh roses and fruit. The pool was great – absolutely needed after a long hot day in Marrakech!
The location was just right for us – I wanted somewhere outside of the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, but close enough to visit daily, and that’s exactly what this riad offers. Taxis into Marrakech and back were quite expensive (40 euros) so just factor this into your budget.
I have stayed at many beautiful 5 star boutique hotels, and this one is honestly able to compete with any of them. A truly magical place. We cannot thank the owner and his staff enough. Merci, merci, merci!!
What could be improved: Nothing! We cannot fault this hotel .Too expensive – Marita from Netherlands – 29 April 2024 (7/10)
The room and pool are great!! Nice garden!
It is a Nice spot, but it’s Neglected.
What could be improved: The shower was broken, The outdoor furniture was broken, chair were dirty.
Only 1 person as staff who you need to search for. No bar, no restaurant …Excellent stay, in line with expectations. – Sebastien from Belgium – 12 April 2024 (8/10)
Food was excellent and plenty, staff very friendly. The suite is very spacious as well as the bathrooms. Breakfast very nice as well as the gardens which has some small turtles which our kids adored.
What could be improved: The pillows on the beds were not great/consistent, this can be improved. Futhermore nothing at all.A very special place – Kathryn from United Kingdom – 6 November 2023 (10/10)
Such a beautiful Riad with lovely rooms and gardens. Incredibly helpful and attentive staff. The manager helped us to book activities and taxis. We ate all of our meals here and they were excellent!
What could be improved: There isn’t much around the hotel, but we were able to book activities and transport to wherever we wanted to go so we kept busy.Perfect, relaxing, gastronomic and delightful. – Caroline from United Kingdom – 10 June 2023 (10/10)
This is a stunning property set in a very peaceful location. Souhail was the perfect host and looked after us completely. Nothing was too much trouble, we could eat when it suited us and the food was exceptional. I really enjoyed swimming in the pool. Nothing could have prepared us for the luxury of this Riad. It was stunning.

Hospitality and space
short but sweet – Ruben from Germany – 5 February 2023 (10/10)
e stayed just a single night before flying off the next morning.
We arrive quite late in the evening and regardless are greeted by a group of men who await us with pot of delicious tee right in the Riads stunning garden area.
After unpacking, one of the owners, Ahmed Soughani shows us around the property and invites us for a glass of wine. He tells us the family tail of the property and we are simply blown away. You literally feel like a an ancient Berber tribe leader being invited to an important political debate on the estate in 1890.
The next morning we wake up fairly early. It is still dark. Breakfast is already served in the stunning dining area with fresh juice and fragrantly fresh bread variations, served with Argan oil, home made jams and more – the staff is already up, chatting to me in fluent German (my mother tongue) as well as in French, helping me to get back into it again.
Shortly after, we are being assisted back to the front gate where a taxi is already awaiting us. Short but sweet!
What a place- must visit when in the area!
