Riad & Spa Laurence Olivier Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of riads in Marrakech, and honestly, most of them blur together after a while – you know, the usual “authentic Moroccan experience” that feels more like a hotel room with some tiles slapped on. But Riad Laurence Olivier? This place actually gets it right, and I mean that in the best possible way.
Finding it is half the adventure – you’re deep in the medina on Derb Tbib, which sounds intimidating but is actually one of those quieter side streets where you can hear the fountains echoing off the walls instead of constant motorbike horns. The entrance is pretty understated (typical riad style), but once you’re inside, it’s like someone took all the clichés about Moroccan hospitality and made them real without being cheesy about it. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting you sorted, whether that’s decent restaurant recommendations or helping you navigate the souks without getting completely fleeced. And the spa – well, it’s not some afterthought wellness center they tacked on for marketing purposes. They actually know what they’re doing with traditional hammam treatments, which is rarer than you’d think.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to keep the authentic riad feeling without sacrificing the stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. The rooms are properly air-conditioned (trust me, you’ll need it in summer), the wifi works throughout the building, and the traditional courtyard setup means it stays surprisingly quiet even when the medina gets chaotic outside. The rooftop terrace gives you those classic Marrakech views without the crowds you’ll find at the bigger tourist spots – perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks when you need a breather from the intensity of the old city. I stayed there during Ramadan once, and honestly, the location was ideal because you’re close enough to experience the evening energy when the fasting breaks, but tucked away enough to get proper sleep. The only minor thing I’d mention is that like most riads, the rooms can vary quite a bit in size and layout, so it’s worth asking about specifics when you book. But really, with a 9.2 rating, they’re clearly doing something right – and after spending time there, I get why people keep coming back.

Beautiful riad 🫶🏼 – Yurina from Japan – 5 May 2025 (10/10)
The staff were really friendly and welcoming 🙂 we didn’t catch the names of two of them, but they were both really nice. Laurence, the owner, greeted us on the last day at checkout too 🥹
The room was huge (Suite)!! We felt like we were in a museum. It was just too beautiful. Shame we were so tired slept early and woke up late 🥹
This was our first time in Morocco, and we stayed here for the last day of our trip. It was definitely the right choice. It’s clean, quiet, and we don’t think we’ll find another place quite like this riad outside of Morocco 🇲🇦
We really loved the tortoise family living in their garden too! 🐢🐢🐢They even have a tiny tortoise, about the size of a thumb😭💚And the garden is so clean. If you don’t like tortoise/ animals, still quite clean.
Thank you so much for the hospitality. We’ll come back again one day🫶🏼We absolutely loved our stay at the Riad Laurance Olivier. – Aidan from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (10/10)
Breakfast was absolutely first-class and attention by the staff was simple wonderful. As it was at all times. Really felt part of a 'family' while staying in the Riad. Rooms were great and outside areas and courtyards were just incredible. A most beautiful place indeed and haven't stopped sharing my experiences with my friends back in Ireland.
What could be improved: Leaving. Just loved every minute. in Marrakech and our time in the Riad.Exceptional – Terence from Ireland – 30 January 2025 (10/10)
Staff where excellent
What could be improved: LocationIt was an excellent Christmas time – one to remember for a long time! – Arturas from Lithuania – 22 January 2025 (10/10)
Location is quite close to places of interest. The riad itself is probably more beautifull than some museums around 🙂
Personel is exclusively nice and helpful. Services ( hammam, massage and privat dinner) are excellent.Peaceful Riad – Louise from Malta – 12 January 2025 (10/10)
We loved the Riad, magnificent decor designed to perfection, but above all, we enjoyed the warmth by the staff – impeccable friendly service throughout – we felt at home !!
What could be improved: We liked everything!!Superb – Oana from Romania – 9 January 2025 (9/10)
Very nice design, attention to details, great rooftop terrace.
What could be improved: We travelled in January and the heating wasn’t working well, so although we received extra blankets, it was cold in the room, which made it less comfortable.Exceptional – Piotr from Netherlands – 7 January 2025 (10/10)
Very good, very nice I recommend it to everyone
A beautiful riad with exceptional staff. – Alan from United Kingdom – 25 November 2024 (10/10)
There are many, many riads in Marrakech but I can't imagine that there many more beautiful than Riad Laurence Olivier. Our room (we had a suite) was absolutely lovely and the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly and generous (special mention to Ali, Anis, Mohamed and Simon who helped make our short holiday so memorable.) Thanks again to all! The breakfasts – served in the beautiful poolside garden – were excellent and the dinners (we ate in the riad on two occasions during our stay) were simply fantastic.
What could be improved: I can't really find any faults with either the riad itself or any of the staff who work there.
