Riad Sultan Suleiman Overview
You know what really got me about Riad Sultan Suleiman? Walking through that heavy wooden door for the first time – I mean, you’re literally stepping off one of those narrow, winding Kasbah streets where donkeys still clip-clop past with their loads, and suddenly you’re in this incredibly peaceful courtyard that feels like it’s been hiding there for centuries. The address says Derb El Hammam, which honestly doesn’t mean much until you realize you’re basically in the shadow of the Saadian Tombs – like, a five-minute walk, tops. The riad sits right in the heart of the old Kasbah district, and I’ve got to say, staying here gives you this authentic Marrakech experience that those big hotels near Jemaa el-Fnaa just can’t match.
What really strikes you is how the owners (they’re actually around quite a bit, which I loved) have kept all the traditional elements – the carved cedar wood, those gorgeous zellij tiles that catch the light differently throughout the day, the central fountain that creates this constant, soothing background sound. But here’s the thing: it’s not like a museum where you’re afraid to touch anything. The rooms are genuinely comfortable, the bathrooms work properly (trust me, this matters in old riads), and the rooftop terrace? Well, let’s just say I spent way more time up there than I planned, especially in the evenings when the Atlas Mountains turn that incredible shade of purple-pink. The WiFi actually works throughout the property too, which – honestly – isn’t always a given in these traditional buildings.
I should mention the breakfast situation because it’s sort of perfect. They serve it in the courtyard or up on the terrace, and it’s this lovely mix of Moroccan and French influences – fresh msemen, local honey, decent coffee, and the oranges are obviously incredible (you’re in Morocco, after all). The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood, too. When I asked about finding a good hammam, they didn’t just point me toward the touristy ones but actually gave me directions to Hammam Dar el-Bacha, which locals use. Getting there from the riad is pretty straightforward once you know the route, though I’ll admit those Kasbah streets can be a bit maze-like at first. The area gets quiet in the evenings – none of that intense energy you get closer to the main square – but it never feels isolated. You’re still only a 15-minute walk from all the action, and honestly, after a day of navigating the souks, coming back to this peaceful little sanctuary feels absolutely perfect.

What could be improved: NoneGreat staff, beautiful riad. – Kevin from United States – 28 June 2025 (10/10)
We only stayed at the Riad for one night, but it was fantastic. Ismail gave us an extremely warm welcome, and gave us plenty of recommendations for an incredible evening. We would absolutely come back.
The location is walking distance to the city center which is quite lively at night. The rooms are simple and beautiful.Lovely Riad in central location – Paul from United Kingdom – 28 June 2025 (10/10)
The Riad was really lovely in a great central location. The staff were especially helpful and attentive particularly Hamsa who welcomed us when we first arrived. The included breakfast was also amazing. When we come back to Marrakech we plan to stay here.
Nice, small, comfortbale and extremely friendly place. – Jacek from Poland – 26 June 2025 (9/10)
We liked very friendly personnel a lot and the location. The terrace was nice as well. We felt very secure and taken care well.
What could be improved: We lacked a kettle in the room. It was impossible to organise it. My wife likes fresh coffee in the bed in the morning. To get it we had to dress up and climb to the terrace, where the breakfast was served. It was the only disadventage we have experienced. The riad was absolutely stunning and we were very well treated. Thanks to Hamza that one day made us breakfast earlier b – João from Portugal – 23 June 2025 (10/10)
The property was absolutely stunning! Everyone was kind and helpful
What could be improved: All goodBeautiful located riad – Aloysius from Netherlands – 23 June 2025 (9/10)
Location was great . Service was really good. And the design of the riad was very pretty
What could be improved: Water pressure could be a bit higherRecommended – Warintorn from Thailand – 16 June 2025 (10/10)
Location was great and really safe. Bed and amenities were perfect. Rooftop for chilling at night time and for breakfast. The staff name Mr.Hamza was really nice and helpful.
What could be improved: Waiting for staff to open the hotel door when we want to go in (sometimes 3 mins). It is for safety purpose but it would be better if there is a remote to help staff open the door from somewhere in the hotel.Thank you Hamza 🙂 – Erin from United Kingdom – 16 June 2025 (10/10)
Amazing service from Hamza and the team. Always making sure we had everything we needed, always going above and beyond, absolutely lovely people.
Super clean and comfortable rooms, really beautiful Riad, would 100% recommend!
Very close to the souks and the medina and short walks away from other tourist attractionsPerfect Riad to stay at to have the best experience of Marrakesh. Everything was perfect! – Christina from United Kingdom – 14 June 2025 (9/10)
Location was perfect! Staff were welcoming and attentive.
What could be improved: TV was not set up properlyVery welcoming Riad in the heart of Marrakech – Sylvina from France – 14 June 2025 (10/10)
I was treated like a sultana! I was very warmly welcomed by Hamza and Ismail who helped me navigate around the riad and the city, arranged early breakfast and hammam for me with short notice 🙂
The Riad and the rooms are well decorated, comfortable and clean.
well located close to many sightseeing locations, the medina, palaces and Koutoubia mosque.
What could be improved: They are partnering with another riad for the hammam. That other place delivered a good service, but cheated on the exchange rate for the payment.
