Riad Tahani Overview
You know what really gets me about Riad Tahani? It’s tucked away on this narrow alley – Derb Sidi Bou Amer – that honestly looks like every other maze-like street in the medina until you step through that unassuming wooden door. Then boom, you’re in this gorgeous courtyard that feels like someone’s elegant family home, which I guess it sort of was at some point.
The whole place just works in a way that a lot of riads don’t quite nail. I mean, sure, they’ve got the traditional tilework and carved plaster you’d expect, but there’s something about the proportions here that feels right – not too grand that you’re intimidated, not too cramped that you’re bumping into other guests constantly. The rooms actually have decent-sized windows (miracle in the medina, honestly), and while the walls are thick enough to muffle most of the street noise, you’ll still hear the call to prayer and the occasional donkey cart rattling by at dawn. Part of the charm, really.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. When I asked about getting to Jemaa el-Fnaa, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the main drag – he walked me to the end of the alley and showed me this shortcut through a covered passage that saves you from navigating three different souks. Little things like that. And honestly, after spending a few days wandering around Riad Laarous, I started to realize how central this spot actually is. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the big square, but you’re also close to some of the quieter neighborhoods where locals actually live and shop. There’s this tiny bakery about two streets over where they make these incredible msemen in the morning – you can smell the butter and honey from blocks away.
The riad itself has that perfect courtyard setup where you can escape the afternoon heat, and they’ve got this rooftop terrace that’s absolutely worth the climb. I spent way too many evenings up there with mint tea, watching the storks nest on the mosque minarets and listening to the medina settle down for the night. The pool’s small but refreshing, and positioned so you get shade by late afternoon when you actually want to use it. Smart design choices throughout, really.
Look, I’ll be honest – this isn’t the fanciest place you’ll find in Marrakech, and the bathroom in my room was definitely on the cozy side. But there’s something authentic about staying here that you miss in the bigger, more polished places. The family that runs it clearly cares about the details, from the way they arrange the breakfast (local bread, not croissants trying to be European) to how they’ll actually remember your name after the first day. With an 8.9 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who feels this way. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real medina, not just visiting it.

Reviews of Riad Tahani
Stay at Riad Tahani – Syed from United Kingdom – 24 May 2025 (10/10)
Excellent place, cleanliness and hosts. Mohamed specially went out of his way and was the most hospitable gentleman.
What could be improved: .If you want a nice, familiar and quiet Riad, this is the right place to choose. – Tariq from Germany – 26 March 2025 (9/10)
Once you enter Riad Tahani you will forget about the loud and stressful traffic outside the Riad. You will get a nice and completely satisfactorily breakfast, lunch or diner and the staff will take really good care of you. Even the Riads own cat seems to take care of you and wants you to feel comfortable. The rooms are clean and a little bit keen-eared but since there are just 5 rooms all together in the Riad you probably wont hear anything really loud. You have to walk through some local alleys to reach the Riad, this can be intimidating at your first time, but you will soon get comfortable with it.
Really lovely Riad. Staff were so friendly, room was clean and cleaned daily, breakfast was good. – Sharon from Ireland – 24 February 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: Nothing, couldnt fault it for the priceWarm welcome with a little mint tea, beautiful room, delicious breakfast. Kiki the cat was so cute. – Alessia from Switzerland – 16 October 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: Nothing, everything was perfect.Perfect experience in the wonderful city of Marrakesh – Richard from United Kingdom – 25 September 2024 (10/10)
Riad Tahani is in a perfect location within the Medina of Marrakesh. It is close to the souls but quiet and tucked away…a perfect base and peaceful refuge.
It is beautifully decorated and arranged for simple comfort. The staff are friendly and attentive. All we needed was provided with a smile and good grace.Superb – Andrew from United Kingdom – 11 August 2024 (9/10)
Good location, good room, good AC, friendly staff
Perfect location to explore Marrakesh Medina by walking. – Ketan from United Kingdom – 9 July 2024 (9/10)
Best part of this Riad is the location being inside the Medina. Very hard to find so please arrange hotel to collect you from Airport. The room was very well cleaned everyday. The breakfast is good but would be better if more choices were available. The service we received was fantastic from Airport pick up by Hassan plus help on all excursions as well as room service hot coffee late evening. There are so many local eating places to choose but suggest trying Amour opposite central square for cocktails and smoothies, Broc The Kasbah for all who are Vegan / Vegetarian, Simple for Fellafal Bowl and Limoni for Pizza/Pasta/Titamisu. Also, try out the Luxury Massage at Heritage Spa just 10 minutes walk – please do NOT go elsewhere as the experience is amazing!
What could be improved: We had problems using the TV every night as regularly lost signals and found out there were local connectivity issues. Our room was small that restricted movement and storage so if you are staying more than a few days then select a larger room.Exceptional – Jorge from Portugal – 21 June 2024 (10/10)
Simu was a star, very sweet and friendly, in fact, all of the staff we met was amazing.
Enjoyed our visit, would stay again. – Susan from United Kingdom – 16 June 2024 (8/10)
Authentic Riad. Lovely breakfast. Nice staff. Near medina. Arranged trips out. Good value for money.
What could be improved: Needs new pillows. Not a good start as arrived late at night so had booked taxi from airport. Driver showed up very late after several phone calls. An excellent experience! – Gascoigne from New Zealand – 28 May 2024 (10/10)
We had the best time! Simou was fantastic, we loved chatting with him at the end of each day, a real highlight of our stay.
Thank you to Asma as well, the breakfast she served was the perfect start to our adventures into the Souk.
