Riad Tahar Oasis Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked through the narrow alleyways of Derb Ouayhah looking for Riad Tahar Oasis – honestly, the medina can be pretty overwhelming with all the donkeys hauling goods and vendors calling out from every corner. But once you duck through that unassuming wooden door, it’s like stepping into a completely different world. The courtyard hits you first – there’s this gorgeous central fountain that actually works (you’d be surprised how many riads have broken ones), and the sound of trickling water immediately drowns out the chaos from the souks outside. The traditional zellij tilework is the real deal too, not those mass-produced knockoffs you see in some places. I mean, you can tell when craftsmen actually took their time with the geometric patterns.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff – particularly this guy Hassan at the front desk – seemed to genuinely care about making sure you understood the medina’s rhythm. He’ll actually draw you a proper map showing which alleys to take to Jemaa el-Fnaa (trust me, Google Maps is useless in those winding passages), and he knows which spice vendors won’t try to rip you off. The rooms themselves are spacious by medina standards, and they’ve managed to add modern touches like reliable AC and decent water pressure without destroying the authentic feel. Sure, you’ll still hear the call to prayer at dawn – that’s just life in Marrakech – but the thick walls do a surprisingly good job keeping out the worst of the street noise. The rooftop terrace is where I spent most of my mornings with mint tea, watching the Atlas Mountains emerge from the haze as the city woke up below.

Look, it’s not going to be everyone’s cup of tea – if you need a pool or room service, you’re probably better off in Gueliz with the international chains. But if you actually want to experience what staying in a traditional riad feels like, without the tourist-trap prices of some places closer to the main square, Riad Tahar Oasis gets it right. The breakfast spread includes proper Moroccan bread and local honey (not just croissants for the Europeans), and they’re flexible about timing if you stumble in late from exploring the night markets. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since parking your rental car at the nearby lot on Rue Riad Zitoun el Kedim is way easier than trying to navigate closer to the major attractions.

Reviews of Riad Tahar Oasis

  • Amazing location, great service and delicious breakfast – Shirley from Netherlands – 15 June 2025 (9/10)

It was clean and Abdul Karim was very welcoming and friendly. He helped us with everything and answered every question. Service was above and beyond! Breakfast was delicious and the location could not have been more perfect!

What could be improved: The shower took a long time to get warm/hot

  • Hidden gem! – Katy from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

I loved the property- spacious, clean, quiet. Little splash pool is great and needed in the heat. Also, lovely terrace

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Enjoyed the stay – Mary from Canada – 25 March 2025 (8/10)

Abdel (staff) was very personable and great help. Great location but way back in the medina and difficult to find at first recommend staff meeting you the first time

What could be improved: Very little hot water and water pressure.

  • Superb – Cooper from United Kingdom – 27 February 2025 (9/10)

First of all our host was a young gentleman called Adbel and was very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble and was genuinely friendly and personable.
The property was in a great location right in the heart of old marakesh but despite the hustle and bustle near meters away it was very peaceful and tranquil.
The price was great at 210 pound sterling for 3 nights value for money was second to none.
I'd happily return here o my next visit to marakesh !
Oh ps the breakfast was fab !

What could be improved: The shower was hit and miss with sometimes very little pressure and could do with some thicker towels but I'm really splitting hairs here to put a negative down

  • Brilliant treasure!!! – Liselotte from Spain – 18 February 2025 (9/10)

They made it feel like we were family

What could be improved: Not so much hot water in the shower.

  • Would definitely come here again – Wiert from Belgium – 12 September 2024 (9/10)

The staff was super lovely and helpful. They really made it for an excellent stay. The riad is beautiful and peaceful. The breakfast is copious, if you can eat it all you can go for a while. Nothing super fancy but really nice and warm feeling to it 🙂

What could be improved: There are some things that are loose or broken. Nothing really bad but still would be better to see some of those things fixed up.

  • Superb – Shaina from Netherlands – 2 July 2024 (9/10)

We had a very comfortable stay at Riad Tahar Oasis. The breakfast was good, and they were attentive. The staff was wonderful, especially the night receptionist Abdul! He was always up for a talk and went the extra mile. The Riad was in the middle of the medina. It was a bit confusing to get to but very beautiful inside.

What could be improved: – Wifi was available but not great

  • Oasis is the word! – Minnie from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (9/10)

What a lovely stay! Zakary was very helpful and accomodating despite me arriving earlier than expected! The riad is a lovely place to spend a boiling Marakesh afternoon when you don't want to be risking sunstroke walking round the souks!

What could be improved: Not easy to find alone, but it could be arranged for someone to meet you. Follow first sign to Riad NS, then straight down, a left, right and the door is at the dead end (see pics)

  • Really fancy Riad and amazing staff – Laura from Portugal – 21 May 2024 (9/10)

The house is amazing, the breakfast is really good with lots of different food (and they served it earlier one of the days on purposed for us), the rooms are comfortable and the staff is nice and really considerate.

What could be improved: We had 2 days with colder water for the showers.

  • Superb – Charlotte from United Kingdom – 30 April 2024 (9/10)

Lovely staff, great value for money, central location

What could be improved: Sometimes difficult to find staff around the riad but probably can’t be helped
