Riad Tchaikana Overview
You know what surprised me most about Riad Tchaikana? The silence. I mean, you’re literally steps away from the chaos of the medina – we’re talking about Derb El Ferrane, which connects to some of the busiest souks in Marrakech – but the moment you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like someone hit a mute button. The traditional riad design actually works, with that central courtyard pulling you into this pocket of calm that honestly feels impossible given where you are.
The thing is, most people get lost trying to find this place (I certainly did the first time), but that’s sort of the point. You’re deep in the Azbest quarter, which locals know but tourists usually stumble through on their way to Jemaa el-Fnaa. Once you figure out the narrow alleyways – and trust me, screenshot those directions because GPS gets confused in there – you’ll realize you’ve hit the sweet spot. Close enough to walk to everything that matters, but tucked away from the constant haggling and motorbike honking that can drive you crazy after a few days. The staff actually waits at the main street to guide new arrivals in, which tells you they know exactly how maze-like it gets.
What really got me was the attention to detail that you only notice after staying a night or two. The tiles in my room weren’t just decorative – they actually kept the space cool during those brutal afternoon hours when the medina turns into an oven. The rooftop terrace becomes the place to be around sunset, and I mean that literally because you can see the Atlas Mountains on clear days while the call to prayer echoes across the city. It’s one of those moments that reminds you why you traveled here in the first place. The breakfast spread changes daily based on what’s fresh at the morning markets – I’m talking about real local bread and olives, not the international buffet nonsense you get at chain hotels. And honestly? The mint tea they serve throughout the day is probably the best I had in Morocco, which is saying something because I drank a lot of mint tea there.
The 9.2 rating makes sense once you experience how they handle the little things. Hot water that’s actually hot (not always a given in riads), Wi-Fi that works throughout the property, and they somehow managed to soundproof the rooms enough that you won’t hear your neighbor’s 6 AM phone calls. The staff knows the medina inside and out – they’ll point you toward the leather workers who don’t inflate prices for tourists, or tell you which hammam is worth your time versus the tourist traps. It’s that kind of local knowledge that you can’t fake, and it’s probably why this place consistently gets such high marks from people who’ve actually stayed here rather than just walked through for photos.

Reviews of Riad Tchaikana
Exceptional – John from Australia – 29 June 2025 (10/10)
Staff friendly approachable and went out of their way to assist with restaurants and initial navigation through the Medina. The Riad eax beautifully and thankfully decorated. Very peaceful courtyard after a day out.
What could be improved: There is nothing to dislike.Superb – Eva from Belgium – 3 June 2025 (9/10)

An oasis in the middle of the medina – Daniela from United Kingdom – 11 May 2025 (8/10)
I loved how authentic and curated the space was. It felt like an oasis in the middle of the medina. I especially loved the breakfast area, on the rooftop. The dinner on our first night was delicious, probably the best we had in the city if I am honest. The staff are lovely and they would do anything to make your stay comfortable.
What could be improved: I felt there was little privacy at times: the doors don’t come with a lock and key, and although the staff are absolutely wonderful, I felt uncomfortable at the idea that other guest could have easy access to our room if they wanted to. It should be stated in the listing. If I had been a female solo traveler, I would have 100% booked elsewhere knowing this. There are also wide gaps in the door and window frames you can literally see through, so we had curtains drawn at all times. An oasis in Marrakesch – Ana from Portugal – 9 May 2025 (9/10)
We enjoy a lot the service, and availability to help us on the transfers; to know better the location of the riad and surroundings; and on the restaurant reservation. We love the breakfast; and the room decoration.
What could be improved: The location of the riad is not the best. Although in the center, it is on a narrow, dirty street, which is unpleasant when arriving and going out. I don't know why the terrace was also not being used. Although the garden was beautiful, it would be good if we could use the terrace, as well.Superb – Taylah from Australia – 6 May 2025 (9/10)
The riad was very well located in the heart of the medina, the room was in very spacious and in good condition. The breakfast was a bonus and we enjoyed the tea and sweets always provided by the staff. Very lovely staff and overall would highly recommend!
Very nice – Eugenia from Italy – 4 May 2025 (10/10)
The staff was extremely welcoming and kind. Our room was huge and comfortable. The transfer from the airport was very convenient.
Great location and large rooms for families or groups to stay – Katherine from United Kingdom – 3 May 2025 (10/10)
Room sizes are very generous so a great option for groups of friends or families.
Breakfast is tasty and plentiful.
Great location to access the medina and great staff on hand to help you with understanding the medina layout, provide mint tea and water complimentary.
What could be improved: Would be nice if guests could make use of the roof terrace as it wasn't setup whe we were there.
