Riad Terra Bahia Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Riad Terra Bahia? The moment you step through that heavy wooden door on Derb Jdid, you’re suddenly in this completely different world – and I mean that in the best possible way. The chaos of the Mellah just disappears, replaced by this gorgeous courtyard with traditional zellige tiles that honestly look like they’ve been there for centuries. The whole riad wraps around this central space where you can actually hear the fountain trickling, which becomes this weird sort of white noise that blocks out the city sounds.
The location is pretty brilliant if you ask me. Most people don’t realize the Mellah is actually the old Jewish quarter of Marrakech, so you’re staying somewhere with real history but without the tourist circus you get closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa. It’s maybe a 15-minute walk to the main square – close enough that you’re not stuck in a cab every time you want dinner, but far enough that you can actually sleep at night. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they’ll point you toward the little bakery around the corner where locals actually go, not the tourist traps.
What I loved most was how they’ve kept all the authentic details – the carved stucco work, the heavy wooden beams, those incredible doors that probably weigh more than my car – but somehow made it feel comfortable rather than like you’re sleeping in a museum. The rooms are what you’d expect from a traditional riad: not huge, but the ceilings are high and the beds are actually good (I’m picky about mattresses, so this matters). The rooftop terrace is where you’ll probably end up spending your mornings with mint tea, looking out over the Atlas Mountains when the air is clear. Fair warning though – if you’re here during peak season, book that terrace spot early because everyone has the same idea. The whole place has this 9-out-of-10 rating for good reason, and honestly, I think that one point they’re missing is probably just because some travelers expect a pool or something. But really, if you wanted a resort, why would you come to a riad in the medina?

Reviews of Riad Terra Bahia
Wonderful experience in a beautiful riad with pool next to the heart of Marrakesh – Luis from Portugal – 21 June 2025 (10/10)
Hello, I loved the stay for all reasons. Most friendly staff, helpful at all times, wonderful Riad close to the souks of the medina, the decor was great, good room with good ac and bed and the pool and terrace definitely a lifesaver! Top experience!
A terrific and authentic Marrakech riad… lovely! – Mark from United Kingdom – 15 May 2025 (10/10)
A lovely riad, staffed by a lovely team, in a great location. Beautiful building, a huge room with a shower big enough for six, a terrific breakfast that would feed three, and a gentle atmosphere with all the delights of Marrakech just a ten minute walk away. Highly recommended… I know that I’ll be back!
What could be improved: Nothing. A great find!Exceptional Stay – Kevin from United Kingdom – 22 April 2025 (10/10)
Everything from here is walkable
Staff could not be more attentive or kinder
Staying in a Riad like this is definitely the way to see and experience the real Marrakesh
What could be improved: Just a bit of advice to travellers. Accept the offer from the Riad to arrange a taxi. They will meet and greet you beautifully and ensure you find the Riad with no fuss.Fantastic and friendly staff and great location – Mohamed from Spain – 10 March 2025 (8/10)
Staff –abdul, Latifa, Michele, and another nice man whose name I did not get– were extremely friendly and helpful.
Location is fantastic, next to Mallah square, which is not as wild as the other areas, yet very well connected.
What could be improved: Not much. The room was good. The price was similar to the other riads we stayed in but the overall quality was a notch below. Still, I'd recommend the place just because of how great the staff are.Made our experience of Marrakech perfect – Stephanie from United Kingdom – 9 March 2025 (10/10)
Made to feel very welcome
The room was amazing, much bigger than we expected
Loved the shower
What could be improved: All was amazingOverall great spot – Queally from Ireland – 10 February 2025 (9/10)
Great spot, everyone’s lovely and open area is nice to hang out in
What could be improved: Only problem with place is our room was right on the alleyway so it could be quite noisy at night some timesExceptional – Jose from Switzerland – 3 January 2025 (10/10)
The decoration, design and cleanliness of the Riad as well as our room were impeccable. They take care of every detail and we were always treated kindly. It made us feel like we were in a 5 star hotel. The breakfast was amazing with a great variety of choices, the staff was always polite and helpful.Totally recommended.
What could be improved: The entrance passage to the Riad is very dark, at night it looks dangerous but it is not.Superb – Damien from United Kingdom – 25 December 2024 (9/10)
Attention to every detail and the most heartfelt service possible
Central, genuine, lovely food, great staff. – Roz from United Kingdom – 9 November 2024 (9/10)
Incredibly central hidden down a tiny alley which at first seemed a bit unsafe, but everyone was so kind. Staff could not be better. Superb breakfast on the upstairs terrace. Helpful info about the area and trips etc. Lots of character within the Riad.
Straight out the door you are onto the main shopping alleys to the square and next to the Bahia palace and Jewish quarter.
Quiet. Sunbeds and parasols and even spare hats to borrow.
What could be improved: Really hard beds and pillows sadly. Some people may love that. Our room on the ground floor suffered from a bit of damp so windows kept open and and dehumidifier kept on.
Views from the roof not great as tumbled down houses around the back. And the swimming pool is really just a plunge pool. But I guess would be good for a dip on a hot day.Exceptional – Maria from Netherlands – 13 October 2024 (10/10)
Delicious breakfast! Welcoming staff, clean room and central location. A special thanks to Abdou for always going the extra mile. Highly recommend
What could be improved: More light in the room, but overal not a problem.
