You know what struck me first about Riad Timila? The fact that you’ll actually find it without wandering the medina’s maze for an hour like some places tucked away in these narrow derbs. It’s on Derb Jdid in the Derb Dabachi area – honestly, one of those spots where you feel like you’ve discovered something special without being completely lost in the tourist shuffle. The entrance is modest in that classic riad way, but once you step through that heavy wooden door, it’s like entering someone’s beautifully restored family home.

The whole place has this lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. I mean, the tilework is gorgeous – traditional Moroccan craftsmanship that you can tell wasn’t just slapped together for Instagram photos. The central courtyard actually feels like a refuge from the medina’s intensity, with that perfect balance of shade and dappled sunlight filtering through. What really got me was the attention to detail in the rooms. The beds are comfortable (not always a given in riads, let’s be honest), and the bathrooms blend modern functionality with traditional aesthetics without feeling forced. You’ll hear the call to prayer from nearby mosques, but it’s more atmospheric than disruptive – part of the whole experience, really.

The staff here genuinely seem to care about making your stay work. They’re not just going through the motions of hospitality; they’ll actually help you navigate the souks or recommend that little tagine place around the corner that locals frequent. The rooftop terrace is where you’ll want to spend your evenings – you can see across the medina’s rooftops and catch glimpses of the Atlas Mountains on clear days. Breakfast is served up there too, and it’s one of those unhurried affairs where you lose track of time planning your day. The location puts you close enough to Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can easily walk over for the evening chaos, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and crowds. Plus, you’re right in the heart of the medina’s artisan quarter, so you’re literally steps away from the best carpet sellers and metalworkers – the real craftspeople, not the tourist trap versions. It’s the kind of place where that high 9 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there.

  Everything. The hospitality, the decor, facilities, bed and bed linen, all the nooks and crannies. The view from the roof top terrace was amazing and we were very sad to leave. Absolutely stunning Riad.

  This is heaven on Earth if you like Morroccon deco as its best! The host and owner Michel gave us the best service ever. Made us feel so safe, even took us to the main square on the first day. The Riad is stunning, so is Hasnae and Michel the nicest people ever! The breakfast was amazing and served at the rooftop terrasse. The Sun came out and we could see the Atlas Mountains. The breakfast and the service was the best we had at our Morroccon trip. We Stayed In 3 hotels. Thanks to Michel, the best host Ever!

  We had a perfect stay. The staff were very welcoming, everyone speaks English very well, the hosts – Michel and Asma are excellent hosts. Would definitely come back. Rooms were as shown in the pictures and were spacy and comfortable. I'd recommend trying their dinner, at least once.

  An excellent stay – a home away from home with the friendliest hosts who helped us understand the local area, organised trips and laid on a special birthday meal with some of the most delicious food we had during our weekend in Marrakesh. The riad is beautifully decorated and very clean, and we loved having a delicious breakfast on the lovely roof terrace every day.
  
  What could be improved: For us the bed was quite hard, but that is very subjective and down to personal preferences.

  Friendly, helpful owners and staff.
  Honesty fridge for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
  Roof terras is nice to have a meal or chill after a day out.
  Location is 2 minutes walk from the main square and excellent for seeing all the sights.
  
  What could be improved: Our week had less good weather. The open, public, areas were also cold. Sitting in the room is then less comfortable, especially as the internet does not work when the windows & door are closed.

  What could be improved: I discussed with Brahim about the room and accomodation:
  – The photos shared on Booking don't correspond of what are the really dimensions of room
  – Double room don't let you to have enough space: the bed was positioned on the wall. The persons were obliged "to jump over" in case of need
  – The 3rd bed was positioned in a place not comfortable, just in front of entrance.
  – ceiling of wood: I was not comfortable to have such ceiling on my head. I didn't know what could be out from there
  – Water: it was charged as extra the water served during the breakfast. I was wondering if this is correct but the reception answered the Brahim decided in this way. This was not transparent.
  – The bathroom drain didn't work: I told to Brahim about this problem and replied that I would have taken out the filter : absolutely unacceptable

  The Road was truly beautiful down to every last detail. Staff (especially Mouad) went truly above and beyond. We were so well looked after at any time of the day. Despite being very central the Riad was incredibly quiet and peaceful. Dinner on the roof terrace was a highlight and so was the hammam treatment.

  eating on the private roof top is an incredible experience: certainly the best restaurant in Marrakech, Hneya and Khadija are incredible cooks
