Riad Tizou Overview

So I stumbled into Riad Tizou completely by accident – well, sort of. I was wandering through the Dar El Bacha quarter trying to find this tiny spice shop someone had mentioned, and honestly, I almost walked right past the entrance on Derb Tizougarine. That’s the thing about riads, right? They hide behind these unassuming wooden doors, and then you step inside and it’s like someone flipped a switch. The courtyard hit me first – this gorgeous open space with traditional tiles that actually look lived-in rather than museum-perfect, and there’s this fountain that’s not trying too hard to be Instagram-worthy but somehow ends up being exactly that.

What really got me was how the staff knew their stuff about the neighborhood. The guy at reception (Ahmed, I think?) didn’t just give me the usual tourist map routine. He actually walked me to the corner and pointed out the bakery where locals get their bread – you know, the one with no sign that’s somehow always packed at 7 AM. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re proper riad rooms with those thick walls that keep things cool even when Marrakech is doing its full summer thing. I mean, the air conditioning works fine, but you barely need it. The bed was comfortable enough that I actually overslept twice, which never happens when I travel. There’s this nice balance where everything feels authentic without being uncomfortably rustic – the shower has decent pressure, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the breakfast spread includes actual good coffee alongside the traditional mint tea.

Here’s what I appreciated most though – the location is absolutely perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in the real medina without dealing with the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa every time you step outside. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the main square, but Dar El Bacha has this calmer, more residential vibe where you’ll see families going about their day rather than just tourists and vendors. The little mosque nearby means you’ll hear the call to prayer, which honestly adds to the whole experience rather than being disruptive. Parking is… well, forget about parking anywhere close by, but the riad can arrange for someone to meet you at the edge of the medina if you’re driving. I walked everywhere anyway – once you get the hang of the narrow streets, it’s actually pretty easy to navigate. The rooftop terrace is where I ended up spending most evenings with a book and whatever wine they had available, watching the Atlas Mountains fade into the sunset. It’s not fancy or over-the-top, just genuinely pleasant in that way that makes you want to extend your stay by a few more days.

Staff were very attentive & warm. The rooms were stunning, bed was very comfortable and felt very safe to have the windows open during the day while we were not in the room.

Breakfast was AMAZING…fresh OJ and coffee, followed with fresh cake and Moroccan flatbread with jams and butter, omelette with side salad and then a fruit platter. Everything was extremely fresh and served with a smile.
We wish we stayed for longer to have dinner also (if breakfast is anything to go by).

We didn’t have a breakfast as much as we would have liked due to early morning activities but the breakfast we did have was tasty.
