Riad Turquoise Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of riads in Marrakech, and honestly? Riad Turquoise caught me off guard in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Rue Touareg in the Berrima neighborhood – not exactly where most tourists end up, which is actually perfect if you want to experience Marrakech without constantly dodging selfie sticks. The whole area feels more residential, you know? You’ll hear the call to prayer echoing from the nearby mosque in the morning, but it’s not overwhelming like some places closer to Jemaa el-Fnaa.

The riad itself is one of those places that looks unassuming from the street (typical heavy wooden door, no signage to speak of), but step inside and… well, you get why they call it Turquoise. The central courtyard has this gorgeous tiled fountain that actually works – I mean, some of these restored riads have beautiful but broken features – and the blue tilework catches the light differently throughout the day. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, though I’d recommend asking for one of the upper-level rooms if you’re traveling in summer since they catch more of the evening breeze. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the city, which matters more than you’d think. When I asked about getting to the Majorelle Gardens, the guy at reception didn’t just give me directions – he told me which entrance to use and what time to arrive to avoid the crowds.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re about a 15-minute walk from the main medina action, but Rue Touareg itself has this fantastic little café (I think it’s called Café Nejma?) where locals actually hang out, not just tourists. The evening atmosphere is pretty special too – you can sit on the riad’s rooftop terrace with a mint tea and watch the sun set over the Atlas Mountains without feeling like you’re in some Instagram photo shoot. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me because it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything works the way it should. Hot water, decent wifi, comfortable beds, and – this is crucial in Marrakech – effective air conditioning. I stayed there in late spring and never felt like I was melting, which can’t be said for everywhere in the city.

Reviews of Riad Turquoise

  • A great riad with friendly staff and an ideal location. – Robert from United States – 10 April 2025 (9/10)

We very much enjoyed our stay at Riad Turquoise and especially the staff there. We had recently stayed at a similarly priced Riad and Turquoise far exceeded that stay. Everything was clean and well-appointed and breakfast was great.

What could be improved: The only downside was the hot tub on the rooftop was not functioning.

  • Quiet, comfortable riad! – Peter from United States – 30 March 2025 (10/10)

The housekeeper, Elam, was there when we arrived, and was very cordial. She recommended some things to do around Marrakech that were very helpful. The proprieteur was there later in the evening and was very genial and kind. He took paiement in cash, which was fine, and easy for us. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast is small but enjoyable, with coffee and tea and bread and local crepes. The riad is easy to access by taxi, and is close to many famous sites. I recommend staying here!

What could be improved: The shower does not have a hook for the faucet, which was inconvenient but it is a small thing, and likely could be easily fixed. There were no other problems!

  • Wonderful – Fiona from Ireland – 21 March 2025 (9/10)

We had a fantastic stay in Riad Turquoise. Soufiane and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. Soufiane is available to organise trips. The riad is beautiful, calm and safe but still right beside all the excitement. Our 2 rooms were beautiful and cleaned daily with fresh towels. We had a great breakfast every morning and Soufiane got up early on our departure day to make our breakfast before we left for the airport. The location of the riad is amazing. From the riad you can walk to alot of the main tourist attractions. We came back to the riad during the day for little breaks which was great. We absolutely loved our stay in Riad Turquoise and would stay again.

  • Traditional stay in Marrakech. Comfy room – Matthew from United Kingdom – 8 February 2025 (8/10)

    Traditional
    Location to restaurants
    Hearty breakfast
Quiet at night, but woken up in morning with local builders

What could be improved: Swimming pool not warm enough in Feb

  • homey and very comfortable – Laura from Spain – 19 January 2025 (10/10)

It’s a very beautiful ria and my second time staying here. It sits right by the buzz of the medina, but in a much quieter quarter. Staff are very friendly and Soufiane is an excellent host, incredibly accommodating and gentle. Breakfast is hearty and rooms comfortable and spacious.

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Exceptional – Lucas from Italy – 16 January 2025 (10/10)

  • Lovely room, comfy bed, great location – Natalie from United Kingdom – 2 January 2025 (9/10)

The room was lovely and spacious. It was a very comfy bed. The breakfast was good. The staff were very welcoming and friendly.

What could be improved: The only negative thing was that the jacuzzi wasn't working when we were there.

  • Exceptional Berber hospitality – Muralikumar from United Kingdom – 24 December 2024 (10/10)

Amazing staff, exceptional hospitality from sufiyan , ilam and the team. Don't think twice to book this place. It's at a perfect location from the Medina surrounded by very good restaurants, but at the same time quiet and ultra clean, with the interiors beautifully decorated and maintained.

  • Superb – Pena from United States – 8 December 2024 (9/10)

Close to the center. The staff, especially Sophian were extremely friendly. The place is kept nice and clean. Highly recommended Riad Turquoise.

  • Fabulous. Location was perfect! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 – Bryan from United Kingdom – 16 November 2024 (9/10)

Staff were lovely and friendly. The room was clean with a comfy bed.

What could be improved: The hot tub was very cold. Maybe it could be heated, and maybe water in the room. These aren’t massive issues though.
