Riad Villa Berna under Swiss Management Overview

You know what surprised me most about Riad Villa Berna? The fact that it’s actually run by Swiss management in the heart of Marrakech’s medina – and honestly, it shows in all the right ways. I mean, you get that incredible Moroccan atmosphere with carved cedar ceilings and traditional zellij tilework, but everything just… works. The hot water is reliably hot, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and when they say breakfast is at 8 AM, it’s there waiting for you at 8 AM.

The location on Derb El Ferrane is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without losing your mind. It’s deep enough into the medina that you feel like you’re really experiencing Marrakech – I could hear the call to prayer drifting over the courtyard walls in the early morning, and there’s this amazing little spice shop literally around the corner where the owner, Hassan, makes the most incredible ras el hanout blend. But here’s the thing – you’re only about a 10-minute walk through the souks to Jemaa el-Fnaa, and the riad staff actually draws you a proper map (not just vague directions like “follow the main path”). The narrow alleyways can be tricky at first, especially when you’re wheeling luggage, but the entrance is marked well enough that even I found it after getting turned around twice on my first day.

What really got me was the attention to detail – the kind of stuff you notice when someone’s actually thinking about what travelers need. The traditional Moroccan breakfast spread includes proper coffee alongside the mint tea, there are both European and Moroccan power outlets in the rooms, and they’ve got this gorgeous rooftop terrace where you can escape the medina buzz without missing those incredible Atlas Mountain views. The pool area is small but perfect for cooling off after a day of wandering the souks, and the staff genuinely seems to know their stuff about Marrakech – they pointed me toward this incredible little restaurant in Gueliz that I never would have found otherwise. Sure, the rooms can feel a bit intimate (this is a traditional riad after all, not a sprawling resort), and you’ll definitely hear some street noise during the day, but that’s part of the charm. It’s the kind of place where you get an authentic medina experience without sacrificing the comforts that make a vacation actually relaxing.

  • Wonderful stay – Katrin from Austria – 31 May 2025 (10/10)

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, thank you Fatima, Aziz and Ismail!
The riad was beautiful with a lovely courtyard, nicely decorated, very clean and well-maintained. The room was spacious, cozy and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, and so was dinner! Good location, right in the Medina, close to the souks, yet quiet. Tucked away in the narrow alleys, but easy to find with Google Maps.

  • A great place to stay! Would recommend – Tanya from United Kingdom – 21 May 2025 (10/10)

We had the best stay in the Riad. The staff were amazing and you felt safe and well at all times. The riad is in the heart of Marrakech which makes it accessible to all places.

What could be improved: Nothing bad to say!

  • A Traditional Riad with Many Comforts – Excellent!! – Lucia from United Kingdom – 20 May 2025 (10/10)

A special thank you to Ismail and Fatima – they were wonderful hosts! Always available, responsive, and helpful with any questions or requests we had. Their warm hospitality made our stay even more enjoyable. The Riad itself is beautifully traditional yet equipped with all the modern comforts. The atmosphere was peaceful, the rooms were clean and well-maintained, and the location was perfect for exploring the area. Highly recommended!

  • Exceptional – Caitlin from Canada – 28 April 2025 (10/10)

The support from staff, especially from Ismail and Aziz. We had a beautiful welcome and received a packed lunch for our departure as it was very early in the morning! Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

  • Great value, great location, comfortable Riad with first class service – Robert from United Kingdom – 18 April 2025 (10/10)

The Riad is extremely well located, just beyond the main souks area, making everything really easy to reach on foot. That said, also very secluded and tucked away, so felt quiet and private despite being so close to the heart of the City. The staff were exceptional in their welcome, customer service, cleaning, cooking, also arranging the transfers to and from the airport. We had dinner at the Riad on our first night, which was lovely, and the breakfasts were generous and imaginative

What could be improved: Faultless – nothing not to like

  • Lovely Riad – Kim from United States – 13 April 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful Riad located in the heart of the Medina. Staff was very friendly and helpful with arranging activities. Was a bit on the pricey side, but we really our stay.
