You know what? I was honestly a bit skeptical when I first turned down that narrow little alley – Derb Chentouf looks like nothing special from the outside, just another winding lane in the medina where you’re not even sure you’re going the right way. But then you step through the doors of Riad White Cactus and… wow. It’s one of those moments where you realize the best places in Marrakech are always hiding behind the most unassuming entrances.

The courtyard hit me first – this gorgeous traditional setup with the fountain in the center (it’s actually soothing at night, not one of those annoyingly loud ones), and the white walls that somehow stay cool even when it’s blazing outside. The staff genuinely knows their stuff about the medina, which matters more than you’d think. I mean, they’ll tell you exactly when to hit Jemaa el-Fnaa to avoid the worst crowds, or which gate to use if you’re coming back late from dinner. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper riad – thick walls that keep the noise down, though you’ll still catch the call to prayer in the morning, which honestly adds to the whole experience. They’ve got this rooftop terrace that’s perfect for breakfast or just hiding out during the midday heat, and you can actually see the Atlas Mountains on clear days.

Here’s the thing about staying in the medina – location is everything, and these guys nailed it. You’re close enough to the main square that you can walk there in about ten minutes (follow the signs toward La Mamounia hotel and you’ll find your way), but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant hustle and bustle. The little bakery on the corner makes incredible msemen in the mornings, and there’s this tiny café about two minutes away where locals actually hang out – not tourist central. Parking’s obviously not happening right at the door (this is the medina, after all), but they’ll sort you out with directions to the nearest spot, or honestly, just take a taxi from the airport and save yourself the headache. The Wi-Fi actually works, which seems like a small thing until you’re trying to figure out your next day’s plans. One tiny thing – the hot water takes a minute to get going, but that’s pretty standard for these old buildings, and once it’s warm, it stays warm. With a 9.3 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, and after staying there, I get it. It’s not trying to be some flashy resort – it’s just a really solid, authentic place to experience Marrakech the way it’s meant to be experienced.

  the riad was beautiful all the rooms where amazing. the place was confy. The poo, great to relax after so much stress in marrakech
  
  What could be improved: That it was hard to communcate at arrival because it was only an email. I was used to being cotacted by whatsapp and thta would make things easier. to get to the riad it was not mentioned we would need to pay someone to guide us because GPS by car does not work. The entrance location was all dirty outside under construction, the terrace are really close between riads and next door its a family and we were only talking by the pool at night no music and they would knock the door.

  Location sicuramente suggestiva, adatta per che vuole fare una esperienza tipica in stile riad marocchino. Posizione ottima per stare nella Medina. Terrazza molto bella. Area piscina bella e comoda per stare in compagnia.
  
  What could be improved: Suggerirei agli host di posizionare un’insegna davanti alla porta del riad, come fatto dalla maggior parte dei riad in zona, in alternativa dare indicazioni specifiche per trovare la location agilmente. Per le porte delle stanze e dei bagni sarebbe comodo avere le maniglie.

  Superbe expérience ! Le Riad est bien placé dans une petite ruelle typique de la médina. Tout est bien décoré dans un mélange de tradition et de modernité. Amal était fantastique ! Les enfants l’ont beaucoup apprécié, elle est réactive et agréable et veille à ce que notre expérience soit la plus satisfaisante possible.
