You know what caught me off guard about Riad Zakarya? I was expecting another cookie-cutter riad experience, but this place actually feels like someone’s thoughtfully designed home that just happens to welcome guests. It’s tucked away in Al Quaria Assiyahia – honestly, I’d never heard of this area before booking, but it turns out to be this quiet village touristique spot that’s far enough from the Medina madness to let you sleep properly, yet close enough that you’re not stuck in taxi hell every time you want to explore.

The whole setup here is refreshingly unpretentious. The owners clearly get what travelers actually want – like, there’s proper water pressure in the showers (trust me, this isn’t a given in Marrakech), and the WiFi works throughout the property, not just in some mysterious corner near the reception. I mean, the traditional Moroccan architecture is gorgeous and all, but what really sold me was walking into my room and finding outlets positioned where you’d actually use them, towels that felt substantial, and – this might sound silly – but the bed was the right height. You know how some riads have these weirdly low platform beds that make you feel like you’re camping? None of that here.

What I love most is how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Moroccan atmosphere without making you feel like you’re performing being a tourist. The courtyard has this lovely fountain that’s actually soothing rather than annoyingly loud (apparently they adjusted the water flow after guest feedback), and there are these perfect little nooks where you can sit with morning coffee and plan your day without other guests hovering around. The staff – well, they’re the kind of people who remember your name and actually seem happy to help rather than just going through the motions. Ahmed at reception gave me the most useful walking directions to the souks, including which alleys to avoid during the busy afternoon hours.

The location thing is worth mentioning because it’s sort of a sweet spot situation. You’re not in the thick of things, which means you can walk outside without immediately being approached by every carpet seller in Morocco, but you’re also not isolated in some sterile hotel district. There’s a decent café literally two minutes away where locals actually go (always a good sign), and the taxi drivers know exactly where this village touristique is, so you won’t spend twenty minutes trying to explain your location. Plus, if you’re the type who likes to walk everywhere, the medina is totally doable on foot – maybe fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace.

Honestly, the 9-star rating makes sense when you stay here. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Marrakech, but everything just works the way it should. The kind of place where you actually relax instead of constantly troubleshooting your accommodation. I’d definitely come back, and I’m pretty picky about these things.

  Apartment close to the city, on the premises 2 grocery stores, where you can buy basic products from morning to evening. Several restaurants with good food open until late hours. Three swimming pools, sun loungers or benches available. Contact with the owner is excellent, responds quickly and is always helpful. Quiet area, large apartment, consistent with the description and photos. Key collection and all instructions for the apartment sent with photos by the owner. We thank the owners for a wonderful time without any problems.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing that was an inconvenience was the lack of a wardrobe or some space/shelves for clothes in the lowest room. Of course, it's not a big problem, but women always like to have clothes in place and organized.

  This Riad is absolutely beautiful. We stayed for a week and the riad exceeded our expectations. There were 3 large double room, all ensuite. There was a tv in one of the bedrooms. There is a bathroom on the ground floor and also an outdoor area on the top of the riad where you can sit outside in the sunshine. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a lovely seating area. The riad is in a gated community which was extremely safe. There are also 3 restaurants onsite, which we found to be nice enough for food. There is a small shop on the premises, which was useful for water. You can hail a taxi from outside the complex to get into the centre of Marrakesh (approx 10 mins in a taxi with traffic). Our hosts of the riad were so nice and helpful to us. I would highly recommend staying here and I am looking forward to returning again.

  Very spacious, good for bigger families or friend groups. Location was superb for safety aspect, it was closed off area with security. We felt very safe there. Location to the media was also reasonable, around 25 min walk, we almost walked everyday.
  
  What could be improved: It has traditional look but still a little outdated, could definitely benefit from new interior. Also wifi was unstable.

  The place is very clean and spacious. The shops are very close by and access to the Mall and Merdina is very easy. I loved the place so much. This is gated community and it gives the visitor security.
