RYAD RDATE LWALIDINE Overview

You know what struck me first about Ryad Rdate Lwalidine? It’s tucked away on this narrow derb off route Berima, and I mean really tucked away – you’ll probably walk past the entrance twice before spotting it. But that’s actually part of the charm. Once you push through those heavy wooden doors, you’re suddenly in this gorgeous traditional riad that feels like stepping into someone’s elegant family home rather than a hotel.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience authentic Marrakech without being right in the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa. Route Berima puts you close enough to walk to the main souks (maybe 10-15 minutes through the medina’s winding streets), but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant tourist crowds and hawkers right outside your door. The neighborhood feels more residential – you’ll see locals going about their daily business, kids playing in the alleys, that sort of thing. I loved hearing the call to prayer echoing from the nearby mosques in the early morning, though light sleepers might want to pack earplugs.

The riad itself has that classic Moroccan architecture with the central courtyard and rooms built around it. What I appreciated most was how they’ve maintained the traditional feel while actually making everything functional for modern travelers. The rooms aren’t huge – this is a medina building after all – but they’re thoughtfully designed with gorgeous tilework and carved wood details. The staff really knows their stuff too; they helped arrange a driver for day trips to the Atlas Mountains and gave me directions that actually made sense (which, if you’ve navigated Marrakech’s medina, you know is no small feat). The rooftop terrace is where you’ll want to spend your evenings – great views over the old city and perfect for watching the sunset with a mint tea. Fair warning though: the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and don’t expect super hot water pressure, but honestly, that’s pretty standard for riads in this part of the medina. The traditional hammam experience they offer is absolutely worth it if you’ve never done one before. Overall, it’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re really experiencing Morocco rather than just passing through it.

What could be improved: Everything was good

  • Incredible stay at a fantastic riad! Highly recommend. – Erica from Canada – 2 January 2025 (10/10)

Beautiful property, very spacious room, the staff was exceptional! Our hostess gave us lots of suggestions for things to see and do, as well as some tips for navigating the city safely. She was so kind and welcoming. Generous breakfasts each day. We loved the location – just off the ring road so it felt like a reprieve from the hectic Medina, but close enough to walk everywhere. It truly felt like our home away from home, and we would enthusiastically recommend this place to anyone planning a stay in Marrakech!

  • Pleasant stay would recommend as a base if wanting to stay in the heart of Marrakesh. – Caroline from United Kingdom – 10 November 2024 (6/10)

Location was good. Staff couldn’t do enough for you, Mustafa was extremely accommodating and friendly.

What could be improved: Door didn’t lock properly on bedroom door. No hairdryer( although was provided with one when asked but was not powerful enough to dry hair).

  • Come sentirsi a casa! – Santarelli from Italy – 23 September 2024 (10/10)

  • Great location, perfect host and lovely breakfast just inside the Medina close to ring road – Maryjon from United Kingdom – 18 May 2024 (10/10)

RYAD RDATE LWALIDINE is a lovely Ryad that has been a family home for more than 100 years it's just inside the Medina, situated off of the ring road so access is easy to access so you don't have to walk through the warren of alleyways to get there, it is situated down a short narrow passage way which is well lit at night. Our host and her staff where lovely, kind and very helpful. The breakfast is very good, with egg, coffee, little spread cheese, French pastries, bread, preserves and coffee, it really set us up for the day. The room is clean and the bed comfortable. The location is very close to Tinsmith Square so within walkable distance to many of the main tourist sites. We would stay agin if in Marrakech without a doubt. Also as an aside we organised taxi's to and from the airport with the Ryad and this made our journey a lot easier, cost at time of writing was 15 euros each way, it's good to take a small amount of euros with you as most places you can pay with Euro and Dirham. Although you can't take Dirham in or out of the country you can access the currency through the many bank machines with a small flat fee payable. At time of writing the Bank of Morocco machines were charging 22 Dirham (approx £1.76p).

What could be improved: We liked everything about our stay at the Ryad so very happy with that. However, as a bit of advice we will say that Marrakech and the medina, with its warren of alleyways can feel very intimidating at first, especially in the dark. On our first night we didn't know we could walk the ring road. Also be prepared for the crazy traffic! As a woman on my own I would always chose to walk around the ring road to access the main areas through Tinsmith Square and not venture through the alleyways on my own. However as part of a couple it felt much safer. Also, be aware that if you take any directions from a friendly local who comes up to you and offers to help be prepared for the demand of payment. This can be a few dirham, so keep some small change or notes on you just in case it happens and go with the flow. It looks like there are still a lot of people struggling so we didn't take too much offence and put it down to our Marrakech experience.

  • Eén van de beste ryad's van Marrakesh! Aanrader! Mooie ligging, fantastisch ontbijt. – Sigrid from Netherlands – 18 May 2024 (10/10)

Geweldig personeel!

  • Warm people make Marrakech magical. – Naomi from United Kingdom – 1 May 2024 (8/10)

The most special thing about the Ryad is manager Moustafa, one of life's angels. I have visited 17 countries so far and never received such a warm welcome, or such kindness. From guiding me to a great local restaurant on my first night, to making me extra strong coffee in the morning and advising me to take a jacket on the only cold day, Moustafa went above and beyond with genuinely warm hospitality. The Ryad is close to the Bahia Palace but quiet and spotlessly clean. The perfect place to rest after a day of fighting your way through the busy souks, all within walking distance.

What could be improved: I'd forgotten that in traditional riads there are little glassless "windows" high up in the walls, so you hear everything 24/7! After a while you get used to it, but at first you feel as if you have little privacy, even though you can lock your bedroom door. I also preferred the rooms on the ground floor, but the whole Ryad is beautifully decorated and well maintained.

  • Lovely stuff that will welcome you to a nice city – Sergio from Spain – 14 March 2024 (8/10)

The Riad is cute and beautiful. Also the bedroom is nice and in good condition. The staff is very kind and supportive al the time.

What could be improved: The smell in the bathroom is sometimes bit uncomfortable (sewer, pipes…)

  • Superb – Marco from Italy – 15 January 2023 (9/10)

Very nice location, just 800 meters from the most famous square of Marrakech. The hosts are so kind and helpful for any request you could have (activities, hammam, breakfast, ecc.). We had a very positive surprise with this ryad.

What could be improved: Nothing bad in our vacation, just few elements to set because we were the first people to occupy a new room they just restyle.
