The staff here actually seem to know the city – I mean really know it, not just the tourist spots. When I asked about where to get good tagine that wasn’t aimed at tourists, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward some generic restaurant guide. He drew me a little map to this family place near Bab Doukkala where they make lamb that falls apart when you look at it wrong. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent air conditioning that actually works (crucial in Marrakech summers), and bathrooms that don’t make you feel like you’re camping. Nothing fancy, but everything works, which is honestly more than you can say for some places charging twice as much. The 7.5 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s not going to disappoint either.

What I really appreciated was the little courtyard area where you can actually escape the intensity of the medina for a bit. Marrakech can be overwhelming – the constant energy, the haggling, the sensory overload – and having a quiet spot to decompress with mint tea became part of my daily routine. The WiFi works well enough for video calls (tested it), parking is available if you’re brave enough to drive in Morocco, and check-in was surprisingly smooth even though my Arabic consists of “shukran” and “la shukran.” The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after evening prayers, so you can actually sleep, but you’re still close enough to dive back into the chaos whenever you want. It’s sort of like having a calm base camp while you explore one of the world’s most intense cities.
