SUMAHAN SUITES & SPA Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to SUMAHAN SUITES & SPA, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a remote location on Route Amizmiz. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come when you’re twenty kilometers outside Marrakech, tucked away in Akrich where the Atlas Mountains start to whisper their presence. This five-star property sits in this gorgeous valley setting that immediately makes you forget about the city’s hustle — and the parking situation is actually fantastic, which is rare for luxury spots in Morocco.
The Luxury Experience
The suites here are something else entirely. My room was this sprawling space with traditional Moroccan touches that didn’t feel forced or touristy — you can tell they put real thought into the design. The marble bathrooms are massive, and I mean, the rainfall shower alone made me want to extend my stay. What really got me though was how quiet everything was; you’re far enough from the main roads that all you hear are birds and maybe the occasional call to prayer drifting over from the village.
Dining and Relaxation
The restaurant serves this incredible fusion of Moroccan and international cuisine, and they source a lot of ingredients locally — you can actually taste the difference. I had this lamb tagine that was probably the best I’ve tried in Morocco, which is saying something. The spa is where this place really shines though; they’ve got this traditional hammam experience that feels authentic, not like the watered-down versions you get at some resort chains. The therapists know what they’re doing, and the treatment rooms overlook these beautiful gardens.
Location and Surroundings
Now, being twenty kilometers out means you’re not walking to the medina for dinner, but that’s actually part of the charm. The drive into Marrakech takes about thirty minutes, and it’s scenic — you pass through these little Berber villages and olive groves that give you a real sense of rural Morocco. Couples seem to love this setup (I noticed a lot of honeymooners during my stay), probably because it feels like you’ve got your own private retreat. The hotel can arrange transfers, or you can rent a car and explore the Atlas foothills, which I’d definitely recommend.
Why Guests Love It
What makes SUMAHAN SUITES & SPA work is that balance between luxury and authenticity — it’s polished without being sterile. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, not just going through the motions. I watched them help other guests plan day trips to the mountains and arrange private dinners, that sort of personal touch you don’t always get at bigger properties. If you’re looking for a place where you can actually relax and disconnect while still having access to serious comfort and service, this spot delivers. Just don’t expect to stumble back from late nights in the medina — you’ll want to embrace the slower pace out here.
