Tazart Lodge Overview

You know what’s funny about finding really good places in Morocco? Sometimes the best ones are sitting right there in plain sight, but you almost miss them because they’re not screaming for attention. That’s exactly what happened when I first drove past Tazart Lodge on the way up to Ourika Valley – I actually had to double back because the entrance is so understated, just this simple gate at kilometer 49.

But honestly, once you’re inside, it all makes sense. The lodge sits perfectly positioned where you can still feel connected to Marrakech (it’s maybe 45 minutes from the medina if traffic cooperates), but you’re already breathing that crisp Atlas Mountain air. The whole place has this lived-in elegance that feels genuinely Moroccan without being touristy about it. I mean, the staff here actually lives in the valley – they’re not commuting from the city every day – so when they tell you about hiking trails or recommend where to catch the best sunset views, they’re talking about their backyard. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, but it’s the little touches that stick with you: proper thick blankets for those surprisingly cool mountain nights, and windows that actually open wide so you can fall asleep to the sound of the river below instead of air conditioning.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in the landscape rather than imposing on it. The building materials – lots of local stone and traditional tadelakt – mean it almost grows out of the hillside, and from the terrace where they serve dinner, you’re looking straight up at peaks that change color as the sun moves across them. The 9.3 rating makes total sense when you realize they’ve figured out that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity. Check-in is refreshingly low-key (no marble lobbies or uniformed doormen), parking is easy right on the property, and the only real noise you’ll deal with is the occasional call to prayer drifting up from the valley villages – which honestly becomes part of the charm after a day or two. If you’re planning to use this as a base for exploring the High Atlas, the location is pretty much perfect. You’re close enough to day-trip to Imlil or even attempt Toubkal if you’re ambitious, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you feel like you’ve discovered something special. Just pack layers – those mountain temperatures can surprise you, even in summer.

Reviews of Tazart Lodge

  • A peaceful retreat in Ourika – Aouatif from United States – 23 June 2025 (10/10)

We had a wonderful one-night stay at Tarzart Lodge. It was a peaceful getaway for me and my family. The owner was very kind and welcoming, and you can tell the place is run with care.
Breakfast was tasty and served with a personal touch. We loved the rooftop!

The location is quiet, clean, and close to nature—perfect for exploring Ourika

What could be improved: Nothing to complain about. We love it ❤️

  • Beautiful lodge and amazing host – Gemma from United Kingdom – 29 May 2025 (10/10)

What a gem of a find! Mr Hassan was truly the most wonderful host. Our flight was delayed and we arrived really late but Mr Hassan whipped up a chicken tagine and pizza for us. The lodge is beautifully decorated with lots of room. The roof terrace is really lovely spot with amazing views. Breakfast was plentiful and yummy with mint tea and orange juice as well as specially bought yoghurt for us. Mr Hassan arranged travel for us to visit Setti fadma waterfalls which are nearby. Highly recommended accommodation with a host that will go above and beyond.

  • Highly recommend – Filipa from Portugal – 6 May 2025 (10/10)

The place is beautiful, very well maintained, feels like home.

  • Beautiful location, fantastic bedrooms and friendly people! – Insya from United Kingdom – 17 January 2025 (10/10)

It was a beautiful location, the rooms were very spacious and there were very nice local walks around the area. The owners Mr Hasan and Mr Abdullah were very welcoming and nice and go above and beyond in helping you out. It’s a fantastic place to stay and the breakfast is great.

What could be improved: Everything was absolutely great.

  • Exceptional – Almos from Hungary – 5 January 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location, welcoming, friendly host, nice breakfast, easy to so daily excursions around (Marrakech, Agafay desert, waterfalls, Imlil etc)

  • Such a great welcome and wonderful local food. Delicious tagine and delicious breakfast. – David from United Kingdom – 1 December 2024 (9/10)

What a find! What a bargain. A great location for exploring the Ourika valley and visiting the Waterfalls, with riverside cafes at intervals. The Apartment is just so stylish in the local manner. Two large sofas and double and single beds in bedroom, as well as a cot. Gas hob and fridge. There is a small shop for dry goods and petrol pump opposite, and local Argan oil shop.
Marrakech is c.45mins away, and a drive across the plain through two towns takes you to the valley to reach Imli and the Toubka walks.
The Hassan family make one feel very welcome. Father speaks French, son has very good English.

What could be improved: Just one thing. More utensils for cooking. A fish slice for example if frying food?

  • Great stay for hikers – Ella from Spain – 3 October 2024 (10/10)

The apartment was more than expected for a solo female traveler. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and it's nice and quiet at night. I didn't use the kitchen, but everything looked great. Enjoy beautiful views from the rooftop terrace. A great place for nature lovers and perfect for 2 nights. All services are walking distance: restaurants, cafes, local shops. I hiked up the hills, around the villages nearby. The next day, I walked along the river and saw flamingos, a friendly dog and Berber women working in the fields. I felt safe. The Berbers are friendly and kind. They helped me out of the forest when I got lost.

The omelette, bread and fresh orange juice for breakfast is delicious. The tea pot is super hot…be careful!! Mr. Hassan is a nice man who only speaks French but his son, Abdallah, speaks English and is the person who responds to online messages. Abdallah drove me back to Marrakesh and we had a very nice conversation. He can even take you to visit some attractions along the way if he has time. Drink the fresh water of Ourika.

What could be improved: I can't think of anything.

  • Highly recommended – Angela from United Kingdom – 20 August 2024 (10/10)

We had an amazing stay , the host was kind and he went above and beyond to make sure we had all we needed ,the apartment was nice clean and comfy with a great view to the high mountains of the valley

  • Superb – Rafael from Belgium – 8 July 2024 (9/10)

Beautiful view from the roof terrace.

  • A chill out place. – Iza from United Kingdom – 26 January 2024 (10/10)

This property is on a main road in Ourika Valley. The one bedroom apartment is the same as in the photos. Very tidy and beautifully decorated. We use the kitchen during our stay and the owner kindly provided us with the pots and other cooking equipment.
The area is very beautiful and surrounded by nature. You can do a lot of walking along the river.
Breakfast is very generous and we had lunch in the restaurant once.
As we stayed in December, it was a bit cold however there are heaters in the living room and bedroom. Rooftop terrace has amazing views.

What could be improved: Nothing. All is good.
