The Best location to visit Marrakech Carré Eden a little Walk to the Médina Overview

You know what struck me first about Carré Eden? The name on the booking site is ridiculously long – something about “best location to visit Marrakech” – but honestly, they’re not wrong about the location part. I found myself on Rue de la Liberté in Gueliz, which is actually perfect if you want to experience Marrakech without being thrown straight into the sensory overload of the medina. The apartment building (Résidence Alia) looks pretty standard from the outside, but don’t let that fool you – this is one of those places where the magic happens once you’re inside.

The setup is brilliant, really. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa, but you get to retreat to the modern Gueliz district when you need air conditioning and a quiet moment. I mean, after spending hours getting lost in the medina’s maze of souks – which you absolutely will – coming back to this neighborhood feels like surfacing for air. The street itself is busy enough that you feel connected to the city, but it’s not the chaos of the old town. There’s actually a decent café right around the corner where locals go for morning coffee, and the woman running it remembered my order by day three (mint tea, no sugar).

What really impressed me was how this place gets the details right. The 4-star rating feels accurate – it’s not trying to be a luxury riad, but everything works properly. The AC is strong enough to matter (crucial in summer), the WiFi actually handles video calls, and the kitchen has real cooking equipment if you want to try making tagine with ingredients from the nearby Carré Eden market. The apartment itself feels lived-in rather than sterile, with that slightly worn comfort that makes you relax immediately. I honestly slept better here than at some fancier places I’ve stayed – maybe because the neighborhood gets properly quiet at night, unlike some spots closer to the action. The 9-rating from other travelers makes sense once you factor in the practical stuff: easy taxi access, walking distance to both old and new Marrakech, and hosts who actually respond to messages. It’s not Instagram-perfect, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re using Marrakech as a base for exploring rather than just lounging around taking photos.

  • Only Good Things to Say – Katy from United States – 12 May 2025 (10/10)

I only have good things to say about this property. The host, Naila, was very attentive, flexible on our arrival time, and checked in with us multiple times through our week stay. The appartement itself was very clean, easy to find, and had nearly every appliance you could need, not to mention a flat screen tv, coffee machine, washer, and electric black out blinds. There’s a cute little patio area that you can access through the bedroom and living room. A variety of teas was left out for us, which we had every morning and night, as well as a bottle of water upon our arrival (since you cannot drink the tap water). There are extra blankets and towels, and a small safe in the bedroom. The best part is the location— there are multiple restaurants directly across and next to the apartment, including a rooftop restaurant and an Italian restaurant, and an amazing patisserie directly next door for morning croissants and smoothies. There is also a corner store, pharmacy, shopping center, and a great grocery store (Carrefour Market) across the road as well. The market being so close was a huge bonus. Most tourist sites are 0.7–1.3 miles away by foot, and if you’re capable and able bodied, are mostly easy to get to (Koutoubia, majorelle gardens, Marrakech nature preserve, souks, walls, etc.). The apartment felt very safe as well with the locked front door and the guard who sat at the front. Also, our flights were changed last minute, and Naila was kind enough to extend our checkout by a few hours. I would highly recommend this property to anyone coming to Marrakech.

What could be improved: – the only thing I can think of is the very firm mattress, which might be uncomfortable for some. However, that is a very minute detail, and I was able to sleep great!

  • Excellent for short stays in Gueliz. – Nicola from Australia – 26 December 2024 (8/10)

Top marks for location – if you need to be in Gueliz this is the perfect spot. Friendly, helpful doorman/concierge – he was right there waiting for me on arrival (a first in Gueliz for me). Terrific patisserie next door. The apartment is spotless and the kitchen well-equipped. Very much appreciated the bottle of water on arrival. A small dining table would be a good addition as there is space for one. The bathroom is tiny – an extra towel rail would help, as would a couple of small wall shelves for your beauty products. The mattress is very firm, but I slept well on it (better than expected!). No street noise, and no noise from neighbours 2 nights out of 3. I would stay here again for short visits.

What could be improved: The apartment gets very little natural light and the main lighting source is bright downlights. I would add warm ambient lighting in the living room, under cabinet lights in the kitchen, and improve the bathroom lighting (the ceiling lights cast shadows and are useless for shaving, make-up, etc). The bedroom has attractive bedside lamps, but a small chair or covered stool/ottoman would be a good addition as well as small rugs to land on when you get out of bed (bring slippers in winter). Little sound insulation – I was mainly lucky but my first night the neighbours were noisy late into the night (no street noise though, a big plus). I would add washable cotton bathmats in the bathroom.
