You know what caught me off guard about The Garden of Asni? It’s actually in Asni village, not Marrakech proper – about an hour’s drive into the Atlas Mountains, which honestly makes it so much better than I expected. I mean, you’re trading the chaos of the medina for this incredibly peaceful spot in Douar Asselda, and the drive there is half the experience. The road winds through these traditional Berber villages where you’ll see locals heading to market with their donkeys, and then suddenly you’re pulling up to this beautiful riad that feels like someone’s elegant mountain retreat.

The place lives up to its name – there really are gardens everywhere, with the kind of lush greenery that seems impossible given you’re in Morocco’s mountains. The staff (who speak amazing English, by the way) explained that they use traditional irrigation methods, and you can actually hear the water trickling through channels around the property. It’s incredibly soothing, especially after a day of hiking. The rooms are spacious with those gorgeous tiled bathrooms you hope for in Morocco, and the beds are actually comfortable – I slept better here than I did at much pricier places in Marrakech city. What really got me was the attention to detail: fresh mint from their garden for tea, homemade bread that’s still warm at breakfast, and they’ll pack you a proper lunch if you’re heading out for a day hike to Imlil or the waterfalls.

The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. It’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top luxurious – it’s just really, really well done. The common areas have this perfect mix of traditional Moroccan design and actual comfort (you know how some riads have beautiful but uncomfortable seating?), and there’s reliable WiFi if you need it, though honestly you might not want to use it much. The location is perfect for exploring the High Atlas without dealing with Marrakech’s intensity, and the owners clearly know the area well – they gave us hiking recommendations that were spot-on and helped arrange a driver for day trips. The only thing to know is that dinner needs to be arranged in advance, but it’s worth it because they source ingredients locally and the tagines are incredible. If you’re looking for a base to explore the mountains or just want to experience Morocco at a slower pace, this place gets it right in a way that feels authentic rather than staged.

  Très bien pour se ressourcer, Mohamed a l’accueil étais parfait, et Mohamed au restaurant aussi, merci a eux deux, grâce a eux notre séjour étais idyllique.

  We stayed as a family of four in one of the villas. The space was enough to accommodate all of us, though we spent most of our time in the garden and pool area. It's a really beautiful setting and environment. The staff was exceptionally friendly. We also ate at their restaurant and the chicken tangine was great. Breakfast in the morning was simple and tasty. A really nice break from the hecticness of Morocco driving.
