The Red House Overview
You know what hit me first when I walked into The Red House? The smell – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s this mix of traditional Moroccan cedar and something floral that I couldn’t quite place, maybe orange blossom? Whatever it is, it immediately made me feel like I was somewhere special, not just another tourist trap in Marrakech.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in Hivernage but still feel connected to the real city. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the medina chaos, but when you’re sitting in their courtyard in the evening, you’d never know it. The street itself – Av. El Yarmouk – is surprisingly quiet for being so central. I was worried about traffic noise (because let’s be honest, Marrakech can be intense), but the rooms facing the interior are dead silent. Even the street-facing ones weren’t bad, though I’d still request courtyard-side if you’re a light sleeper.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve nailed that balance between authentic Moroccan style and actual comfort. The rooms aren’t huge – this is a 4-star, not a resort – but they’re thoughtfully designed with these gorgeous tadelakt walls that feel cool to the touch even in summer. The beds are actually good too, which honestly surprised me because I’ve stayed in some beautiful riads where I barely slept. Here, I was out like a light every night. The bathrooms are where they really splurged though – proper rain showers and this local soap that smells incredible.
The staff deserves a mention because they seem to genuinely care about what you’re doing in the city. The guy at reception (I think his name was Youssef?) gave me directions to this tiny restaurant in Gueliz that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals. That’s the kind of local knowledge you can’t get from a guidebook.
I’ll be honest – it’s not perfect. The WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and if you’re here during peak season (March-April or October-November), the common areas can feel a bit crowded. But honestly? That 9.2 rating makes complete sense once you’ve been there. It’s one of those places where everything just works without feeling corporate or soulless.
If you’re the type who needs to be steps from Jemaa el-Fnaa, this might not be your spot – though honestly, being in Hivernage means you’re close to better restaurants and you can still walk to the main square when you want that energy. But if you want somewhere that feels authentically Moroccan while still having reliable hot water and air conditioning, The Red House gets it right. I’m already planning my next trip back, and I’ll definitely be staying here again.

We absolutely loved our stay at The Red House! Beautiful villa and the mosaics throughout the property are true pieces of art — absolutely stunning! Peaceful atmosphere, and super friendly, attentive staff – the manager felt like an old friend! Our room was spacious and spotless with great terrace looking at the pool. The breakfast was the best! The location is perfect — quiet but close to everything with a pleasant safe walk.

The staff were excellent from checking in to leaving. The rooms were large and spacious and very well decorated. The pool area was wonderful and the food amazing. Breakfast was gorgeous and plentiful on the veranda and we also had a lunch on our last day which was delicious. A great stay and just outside the city wall so much quieter than inside!!

I will be backAmazing staff and good location – Sonia from Spain – 24 May 2025 (8/10)
Beautifully kept and spotlessly clean. Staff were exceptional
What could be improved: Very noisy. We didn’t get the room we had bookedExcellent Hotel a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. – Alastair from United Kingdom – 22 May 2025 (9/10)
The Red House is located on a busy road a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the Medina, We were concerned that there might be a lot of traffic noise at the pool area but it was much quieter than we were expecting. Our room was spacious with a large terraced area outside. The restaurant was excellent, as too was the breakfast which we enjoyed outside most days. The staff were all very friendly and the overall service was excellent.
What could be improved: The floor of the room hadn't appeared to have been cleaned prior to arrival, we reported this the following morning and was quickly remedied.
