You know what struck me first about Villa Catherine? It’s actually tucked away in Douar Aimerine, which means you’re getting that authentic Moroccan countryside vibe without being stuck in the middle of nowhere. I mean, you’re still close enough to Marrakech proper that you can easily hit the medina when you want that chaos and energy, but honestly, coming back to this place feels like stepping into a completely different world.

The thing about staying out in Sidi Ghiat is that most tourists never make it this far – they’re all cramming into the riads in the old city, fighting over the same Instagram spots. But here’s the deal: you get space to actually breathe. The villa itself has this relaxed, almost residential feel that I wasn’t expecting from a 4-star place. The owners clearly put thought into the details without going overboard with the touristy Moroccan décor thing (you know what I mean – when everything’s covered in zellige tiles and it feels like a theme park). Instead, it’s got this understated elegance that actually feels livable.

What really sold me was the outdoor areas – and I’m someone who usually couldn’t care less about gardens. But the way they’ve designed the terraces and pool area, especially in the early morning when you can hear the call to prayer echoing across the valley… it’s pretty special. The pool’s actually swimmable too, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. Parking’s easy, which is huge if you’re planning to rent a car and explore the Atlas Mountains – something I’d definitely recommend from this location. The staff runs a tight ship without being overly formal, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No endless forms or pushy upselling, just genuine hospitality.

I’ll be honest though – if you’re the type who wants to stumble home from Jemaa el-Fna at 2 AM, this probably isn’t your spot. You’ll need to plan your evenings a bit more, maybe grab dinner in the city and head back, or just embrace the slower pace here. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Morocco, but it delivers on what it promises. The location gives you the best of both worlds: easy access to Marrakech’s energy when you want it, and a peaceful retreat when you need to recharge. Plus, staying out here means you’ll probably end up discovering parts of the region that most visitors miss entirely.

  La Villa Catherine est dotée d'un extérieur magnifique. Les chambres sont confortables. L'accueil est sympathique.
  La restauration est bonne.
  Un peu loin de Marrakech mais c'était notre choix ! Le chemin pour arriver est un peu surprenant ! au milieu de nulle part.
  Un petit effort à faire sur les sanitaires.

  Everything was awesome, beautiful place, great rooms and good breakfast, the only thing I didn’t like was the location, definitely you’ll need a car to get there and a little hard to find the villa.

  What could be improved: No mint tea or drink on arrival. Dinner and breakfast Food lacked freshness and we were not asked about kids meals or dietary prefs. Dogs barking, cockerels and house music in the early morning was not conducive to a good sleep.

  We loved the villa; the grounds are beautiful and so well cared for. The pool was great: clean, good size, good temperature, plenty of sunbeds with fresh towels every day. The owner, the manager and all of the staff were excellent: attentive, kind, thoughtful. They arranged taxis for us to town and the local village, even taking us themselves sometimes.
  The tables for the meals were always set beautifully, with petals sprinkled on the tables, looking so romantic. The lunches and evening meals were reasonably priced at 18 euro, tasty and filling.
  The rooms in the villa were spacious, good AC, clean, plenty of storage space, and the shower worked well, plenty of hit water.
  The villa was quiet, peaceful….a lovely relaxing place to be. It would not be any good for hen or stag parties.
  
  What could be improved: Difficult without a car if you want to get out of the villa….too far to walk anywhere.
  Would have liked some savoury options for breakfast.
