Villa Dar Al Hayat Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Villa Dar Al Hayat on Route de Bab Atlas, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The location threw me off a bit because you’re sort of on the edge of things, not right in the thick of the medina chaos, but actually? That turned out to be perfect. You get this sense of being in “real” Marrakech without the constant hassle of scooters buzzing past your ears every five seconds. The taxi driver knew exactly where it was, which – trust me – doesn’t always happen with some of these smaller places.
What really got me was stepping inside and realizing this place has that authentic riad feel without feeling like a museum, you know? The courtyard actually feels lived-in, with these gorgeous tiles that have clearly been there for decades, and the sound of water trickling from the fountain that doesn’t feel forced or touristy. The staff here genuinely seem to care about what they’re doing – I mean, the guy at reception remembered my name after one conversation and kept asking how my day exploring the souks went. The rooms have this perfect balance of traditional Moroccan design and modern comfort (the AC works properly, thank god, because even in shoulder season it gets warm). I loved the little details like the handwoven rugs and the fact that the bathroom actually has good water pressure – something you definitely can’t take for granted in this part of the world.
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a while to appreciate: you’re about a 15-minute walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa, which sounds far when you’re planning, but it’s actually ideal. You can easily get to all the main attractions, but when you want to escape the intensity of the medina and just chill, you’re in this quieter neighborhood where you can actually hear yourself think. There’s a little café about two minutes away where locals actually hang out – not a tourist spot – and the route back to the hotel at night feels safe and well-lit. The only minor thing is that if you’re the type who wants to stumble back from dinner at midnight, you might want to have the hotel arrange a taxi, but honestly, that’s pretty standard for Marrakech anyway. What really sealed it for me was sitting on the rooftop terrace in the evening with a mint tea, watching the call to prayer echo across the city while the Atlas Mountains turned pink in the distance. It’s one of those moments where you remember why you travel in the first place.

The villa has to one of the best self-catering accommodation we’ve stayed in. The villa is spacious and very clean; it’s decorated to a high standard.
There’s an AC machine and Nespresso Coffee machine in every bedroom; 3 out of the 4 rooms have an en-suite bathroom. The beds are comfortable. The host kindly gives fans, slippers and sleeping eye masks to ensure you the most comfort. We really appreciated these simple gestures.
Atika is a wonderful and helpful housekeeper, she made us feel so welcome and made a lovely breakfast each morning. She kindly make us dinner one night and booked our transport whenever we needed. She happily did some shopping for us too. We would
The indoor jacuzzi has to be the highlight of the property! Absolutely amazing! The outdoor pools are also amazing and clean.
The grounds of the villa are also lovely and we enjoyed walking around them.
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike.
Just be aware to not use the washing machine, dishwasher and AC machines at the same time. The electricity will cut.Villa de Luxe au calme de la Palmeraie. – Goret from Belgium – 8 May 2025 (10/10)
