You know what hits you first at Villa Mayaz? It’s not the heated pool everyone talks about (though honestly, that’s pretty great) – it’s how quiet everything gets the moment you step through those heavy wooden doors. I mean, you’re still in Marrakech, the city’s still buzzing just outside, but there’s this immediate sense of… I don’t know, breathing room? The whole place feels like someone’s really thoughtful family home that just happens to have better tile work than most palaces.

The heated pool is definitely the star here, and I get why they put it right in the name. Most riads have these tiny plunge pools that are gorgeous but pretty much useless for actual swimming – this one’s different. You can actually do laps if you want, though honestly I spent most of my time just floating around in the evenings when the water’s perfectly warm and the palm trees start casting these long shadows across the courtyard. The staff keeps the temperature just right year-round, which is clutch during those surprisingly chilly Marrakech nights in winter. Pro tip: early morning swims are magic, before the day gets going and you’ve got the whole place to yourself.

What really sold me on Villa Mayaz though was all the little things that show someone actually lives and breathes hospitality here. The rooms – and I stayed in one of the ground floor ones overlooking the garden – have this perfect mix of traditional Moroccan details and stuff that actually works for modern travelers. Like, yes, there are beautiful zellige tiles and carved plaster, but there’s also reliable wifi and outlets where you need them. The bed was surprisingly comfortable too, which isn’t always a given in boutique places like this. The bathroom’s spacious with good water pressure, and they stock it with these locally-made soaps that smell incredible. Parking’s handled for you without any fuss, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate the medina with a rental car, you’ll appreciate. The location’s pretty sweet too – you’re close enough to walk to Jemaa el-Fnaa and the souks when you want that full medina experience, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant noise and hustle. It’s in one of those residential neighborhoods where you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, which I actually love. Staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work – they’ll help with dinner reservations, day trips, whatever you need, but they’re not hovering. That 8.8 rating makes total sense when you add it all up. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay if you can swing it.

  Le seul point vraiment positif, ce sont les employés : Hayat, avec son sens de l’accueil et sa cuisine délicieuse, a vraiment sauvé notre séjour sur le plan humain. Le jardinier, lui aussi, fait un travail remarquable. Le jardin est magnifiquement entretenu, et c’est d’ailleurs le seul élément de la villa qui est irréprochable.
  
  What could be improved: Nous avons séjourné 3 nuits à la Villa Mayaz à Marrakech, attirés par sa note de 10/10 sur Booking, mais malheureusement, notre expérience a été très décevante.
  
  La maison est vieille et aurait besoin de sérieux travaux de rénovation. Une des chambres était totalement inutilisable à cause d’un fort problème d’humidité, un vrai souci pour les personnes allergiques. Des cafards étaient présents un peu partout, ce qui rend le séjour très inconfortable. L’évier de la cuisine était bouché dès notre arrivée, et le linge de maison (serviettes, draps) est clairement usé et mériterait d’être renouvelé.
  
  Nous avons choisi cette villa en nous fiant à sa note parfaite, et nous estimons que les futurs voyageurs méritent d’avoir une vision plus réaliste pour éviter les mauvaises surprises que nous avons rencontrées.
