Okay, so Villa Naël is one of those places that honestly surprised me – and I mean that in the best way possible. When you first pull up to DOUR LAAOUINA (which, fair warning, your taxi driver might need to ask for directions because it’s tucked away from the main tourist drag), you’re not immediately blown away by the exterior. But that’s actually part of what makes this place special – it’s got that authentic riad vibe without feeling like a museum piece designed for Instagram.

The moment you step inside though, you get it. The courtyard is gorgeous – I’m talking about that perfect Moroccan tilework that catches the light just right, especially in the late afternoon when the sun hits the fountain at this amazing angle. What really struck me was how quiet it is here. I mean, you’re still in Marrakech, so you’ll hear the call to prayer and the occasional motorbike, but you’re far enough from Jemaa el-Fnaa that you can actually have a conversation without shouting. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right – they remembered my coffee preference after literally one morning, and when I mentioned I was trying to find a specific spice shop, the guy at reception drew me a little map with shortcuts only locals would know.

The rooms themselves are spacious (way more than what you’d find in the medina proper), and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve slept in throughout Morocco. The bathrooms are modern but still feel authentic – none of that weird fusion stuff that sometimes happens when places try too hard. You know what I loved? The little details, like how they leave dates and mint tea in your room when you arrive, or how the evening lighting creates these incredible shadows on the walls. The pool area is perfect for escaping the midday heat, and it’s never crowded because, well, this isn’t some massive resort. I actually spent most afternoons there with a book, and the only sounds were water trickling and birds from the surrounding gardens. If I’m being completely honest, the wifi can be spotty in some rooms – but that might actually be a blessing depending on what you’re looking for. The location means you’re about a 15-minute walk to the main souks, which is ideal because you can explore all day and then retreat to this peaceful bubble. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you want to experience real Moroccan hospitality without the tourist circus.
