Look, I’ll be honest – when I first turned down Rue Bilal Ben Rabbah looking for Villa Soraya, I wasn’t expecting much from the narrow street tucked away in this residential corner of Marrakech. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones hiding in plain sight, just a few minutes’ walk from the chaos of Jemaa el-Fnaa but feeling like you’ve stepped into someone’s elegant private home.

The whole hammam and jacuzzi thing isn’t just marketing speak here – they’ve actually got a proper traditional hammam setup, and I mean the real deal with the heated marble slabs and that slightly sulfurous steam that clears your sinuses instantly. The jacuzzi’s in this gorgeous tiled courtyard area where you can hear the call to prayer echoing off the surrounding buildings in the evening, which honestly adds to the whole experience rather than disturbing it. What struck me most was how they’ve managed to blend that authentic Moroccan riad feel (you know, the central courtyard with rooms opening onto it) with modern touches that actually work. The tiles are hand-cut zellige – I watched one of the staff explaining the technique to another guest – and the metalwork has that slightly imperfect, hand-forged quality that tells you it’s not mass-produced.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing groundbreaking but comfortable enough, with decent air conditioning that you’ll definitely appreciate during Marrakech’s scorching summer months. I stayed in March and the nights were perfect for leaving the windows open to catch the breeze, though I imagine July guests might have a different experience. The location is actually brilliant if you want to feel like you’re living in a real Marrakech neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble – there’s a little épicerie right at the corner where the owner, Mohammed, makes surprisingly good coffee and knows everyone’s business (in the best possible way). You’re about a 10-minute walk to the medina’s main drag, which means you can easily duck back for a quiet afternoon when the crowds get overwhelming, but you’re not so far out that you need taxis constantly.

The 7.9 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any nasty surprises. The staff genuinely seems to care about the place, which you can tell because they remember your name after day one and actually give useful recommendations rather than just directing you to their cousin’s carpet shop. One thing to note: the hammam gets busy around 6 PM when day-trippers show up, so if you want the full relaxation experience, aim for late morning or after 8 PM. Also, don’t expect a big pool – this is more about the intimate hammam experience and that lovely jacuzzi courtyard where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over splashing kids.

  Nice big comfy bed with large TV if thats what youre into. I loved the shower that felt like a massage in itself. Lovely to get a tea in the evening as I missed my little rituals

  The villa offers great value, simple but very clean ,it is a good walk to the centre,but taxis are readily available.
  Walid was exceptionally helpful as we were novices to Marrakesh, he arranged taxis, and great tours for us without any fuss and made our visit hassle free.

  The staff were welcoming. A pool table and hot tub to keep teenage boys entertained. The location was quiet, not too far from the attractions such as Jemaal el-Fnaa. Local shops are close to the villa for snacks, fruit, and water. Local restaurants are within walking distance.

  Staff is amazing, very helpfull and kind at any hour. Breakfast was really good and huge! The Riad is not so near to the centre but Is in a quiet zone of Marrakech with a lot of restaurants and all services!
