Villa Tounarouz Overview

You know what’s interesting about Villa Tounarouz? It’s one of those places that actually makes you appreciate being outside the medina madness – and I say that as someone who usually thinks you need to be right in the thick of Marrakech to get the real experience. But honestly, after a few nights here, I started to understand why some travelers prefer this kind of setup.

The location on Route Fès is about 14 kilometers out, which sounds far but it’s actually perfect if you’re planning day trips to the Atlas Mountains or just want a breather from the intensity of Jemaa el-Fnaa. The drive back into town takes maybe 20 minutes (depending on traffic around Sebt Ben Sassi), and there’s something really satisfying about returning to this quieter space after a day of haggling in the souks. What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to create this authentic Moroccan villa experience without feeling like a theme park version of Morocco, if you know what I mean. The architecture has that traditional riad feel – you’ve got your central courtyard, those gorgeous geometric tiles that catch the light differently throughout the day, and rooms that stay surprisingly cool even during the afternoon heat.

The staff here actually knows your name by day two, which is rare at a lot of places. They helped me figure out the best times to visit Majorelle Garden (early morning, trust me on this) and gave me directions to a pottery workshop in the area that I never would have found otherwise. The pool area becomes this really peaceful spot in the evenings – I mean, you can hear the call to prayer drifting over from the village, but otherwise it’s just quiet in a way that central Marrakech never is. The food situation is solid too; their tagines are legit, and breakfast on the terrace with views toward the Atlas Mountains is… well, it’s one of those moments where you remember why you travel in the first place. One thing to note – and this isn’t really a complaint – but you’ll definitely want to arrange transportation if you’re planning to go out at night. There aren’t really taxis just hanging around out here like in Gueliz or the medina. But honestly, after a full day of exploring, I found myself actually looking forward to those quieter evenings by the pool, maybe with a book and one of their mint teas. It’s the kind of place where you end up staying an extra night just because leaving feels like too much effort – and I mean that in the best possible way.
