Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Winarouze House on Rue Bab Ksiba, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is pretty understated, which is actually refreshing in a city where every riad seems to be shouting for attention. But once you step inside, it’s like entering someone’s well-loved family home that just happens to be really, really beautiful. The owner clearly has an eye for detail – there’s this gorgeous tile work that looks original, and the courtyard has that perfect morning light that makes you want to linger over mint tea way longer than you planned.

What I love about this place is how it sits right in the heart of the Kasbah but somehow feels removed from all the chaos. You know how some riads are literally on top of the souks and you can’t escape the noise? Well, Rue Bab Ksiba is just far enough from the main drag that you actually get some peace, but you’re still a five-minute walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa when you want to dive into the madness. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood – not just the tourist spots. They pointed me toward this tiny bakery around the corner where locals get their bread, and honestly, those morning pastries became my daily ritual. The 7.8 rating seems about right to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Marrakech, but it nails the things that matter.

The rooms themselves are comfortable in that lived-in way that makes you feel like you’re staying with friends rather than just passing through. I mean, don’t expect ultra-modern everything, but the beds are good, the bathrooms work (important detail in old Marrakech buildings), and there’s enough traditional character to remind you where you are without feeling like a theme park. One thing I really appreciated – the wifi actually works throughout the building, which isn’t always a given in these thick-walled places. The rooftop terrace is probably the real star here though. Come sunset, grab a spot up there and you’ve got this incredible view over the Kasbah walls toward the Atlas Mountains. It’s where I ended up most evenings, planning the next day or just watching the city settle into night. For a 4-star place, it punches above its weight in terms of atmosphere and that intangible feeling of being somewhere authentic rather than just another tourist stop.

  Staff very friendly and accommodating. Room was clean, spacious and comfortable beds. Our room was at the back of the property and so limited noise. Parking near the property which made it easy for us as travelling through.

  I liked pretty much the bathroom, though for someone it might be the opposite – the door to the bathroom were like the “Wild West saloon” ones. So not a real full door. We found it nice. And the terrace – it offers a view over the Medina wall towards the park and streets of Marakesh, a bit noisy, but different and in a way refreshing view different than we had from other rooftops in Medina.
