You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Yanis Guest House on Route de Targa – honestly, the street address makes it sound more official than it feels. But here’s the thing about this place: it’s got that perfect balance of being tucked away from the madness of the medina while still being close enough that you can actually walk there (though I’d recommend a petit taxi after dark, trust me on this one).

The whole vibe here is refreshingly low-key for a 4-star place in Marrakech. You won’t find any over-the-top chandeliers or marble everywhere, but what you will find is this genuinely warm family-run atmosphere that feels authentic without trying too hard. The riad-style courtyard is where you’ll probably end up spending most of your downtime – there’s something about the way the light filters through in the late afternoon that just makes you want to sit there with mint tea and actually relax. And speaking of tea, they make it properly here, not the tourist version you get in some places. The rooms are solid – nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable (which honestly matters more than most people admit), and the AC actually works, which is crucial during those sweltering summer months when Marrakech feels like an oven.

What really sets this place apart though is the location knowledge you get from the family running it. They’ll tell you which hammam is worth your time (hint: not the touristy ones), and more importantly, they’ll give you actual directions that make sense instead of those vague “walk toward the big square” instructions you get elsewhere. The breakfast is proper Moroccan – fresh bread, local honey, and olives that actually taste like something – served in their little garden area where you can hear the call to prayer echoing from different mosques around the neighborhood. It’s one of those sounds that feels overwhelming at first but becomes oddly comforting after a few days. The area itself is residential enough that you’ll see actual Marrakchi families going about their daily business, which I mean, isn’t that partly why you came to Morocco in the first place? Sure, you’ll still need to navigate the usual taxi negotiations and the occasional street noise (this is North Africa, after all), but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels connected to the real city rather than isolated from it. Plus, with an 8.8 rating, it’s clearly working for other travelers too – and honestly, those numbers don’t lie when it comes to places that actually deliver on the basics while giving you a genuine taste of Marrakech life.

  Amazingly welcoming and friendly hosts. We booked last minute in the evening after a flight cancellation and needed somewhere to stay for a night or two with our children. They were so welcoming and accommodating and after the stresses of our experience at the airport this was a tranquil oasis of calm. The breakfast was incredible, we also had lunch there and felt bad for not eating much of it – although it was delicious we were too stressed about getting home and our travels to fully enjoy it.
  The pool is beautiful and refreshing, the rooms are clean and spacious, and nothing is too much trouble for any of the hosts. They helped arrange our taxi to the airport as well. Cannot recommend this enough. We are so grateful to have stayed here and will return on our next trip.

  Such a lovely place to get away from the non-stop liveliness of Marrakech. Clean, comfortable rooms and a great pool area, and great staff made our stay really lovely.
  
  Even though there were 10-20 guests staying while we were there, it seemed far less. Our time spent around the pool or having dinner near the bar area was rarely interrupted, with everyone seemingly there for the same reason – a quiet getaway. We wanted a quiet night after our Sahara tour and that’s exactly what we got.
  
  I can’t drop a review without leaving a massive thank you to Samir, who was such a great host, and helped us whenever we needed during our stay. From check-in to check-out, Samir was there for our every query or request. He’s a credit to the team at Yanis.

  Intimate and ideal for a small group. Although there were other guests at the guest house, the staff made us feel that we were the only ones.They catered for all our requests and went beyond to make us comfortable. Generally the property was clean and well decorated. Furniture,fixtures and fittings kept well.
  
  What could be improved: The Wi-Fi didn’t work in some areas and reception was on and off.

  We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic, making it easy to explore the area. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, ensuring a relaxing experience.
  
  However, what truly made our stay exceptional was the incredible staff. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, always greeting us with a smile and offering assistance before we even had to ask. Their dedication and hospitality made all the difference, turning a great stay into an unforgettable one.

  I had a very pleasant stay at this apartment and truly enjoyed my time there. The place was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, with all the amenities I needed.
  
  The host was friendly and attentive, ensuring everything went smoothly during my stay. The apartment had a welcoming atmosphere, and I felt right at home. Also breakfast was delicious.
  
  Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I would gladly stay here again. Highly recommended!

  What could be improved: The location was outside of the area for any tours to pick us up at the hotel. Thankfully we had a car but we had to drive to a pick up location and find parking (which is difficult to do in Marrakech).
  Our room was never attended to during our stay, staff asked for our keys to do so but it was never done. It would of also have been nice if our room had a fridge.

  The property was lovely, although a little distant from the city center but the kind hotel staffs always arranged a taxi for us whenever we wanted to go into the city center. The rooms were clean, cozy and well organized. The bathroom was clean and okay. The pool and outside sun beds were great too, it wasn’t crowded. My group had a lovely time to chill by the pool and a couple of us had a good swim although the water was cold(we went in the first week of December). Overall I would recommend this place, it’s a great deal for the price.
  
  What could be improved: They served breakfast by 8 and if you don’t inform them at least a day before if you’d want an early breakfast because you’d be going out then no breakfast for you. Although they need arrange an early breakfast for us on one of the days which we truly appreciated.
